today i want to bring you here to Nigeria as I share with you an interesting story on the popular olumo rock situated in Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Olumo rock is a massive outcrop of granite rocks with primitive formation. It is a popular tourist attraction in the city of abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria. The rock is an historical monument which served as shelter, refuge and fortress for the 'Egba' people during the inter-tribal war which broke out in the 19th century.
The rock provided sanctuary to the people as well as a vantage point to monitor the enemy's advance leading to eventual triumph in war.
The rock is a monument of faith, unity source of strength and unfailing protection for the Egba people.. They lived in the rock for many years after the war as the rock provides food, shelter and water as it is believed that the God of the rock accepted the Egba people and cater for their needs..
The trip to olumo rock is just an hour drive from Lagos where I reside.. On getting there, the trip commences with a climb up the man-made stairs carved into the rock, the journey continues with climbs on irregularly sized rocks through a narrow corridor that leads to the top of the rock.
Beautiful scenario
