Rio de Janeiro -understanding the city of 2016 Olympics

in #olympics8 years ago

Hi , my name is Leandro and I am at Rio de Janeiro

This is not the first time I stay here , but each time I walk here, more understand Rio.

Violence

Brazil is not for amatuer. About 50,000 people die each year and Rio is one of te most violent city.
Recently, one initiative to alert residents of Rio de Janeiro about shootings that occur daily and frighten the population has had good hearing. Released eight days ago, the Crossfire ( "Fogo cruzado" in portuguese) application maps in real time, where are happening firearms shots in the metropolitan area of Rio. Only this time, there have been 15,000 downloads.

The first report, released on Wednesday (13), showed that in just seven days, 265 reports of shootings were sent to the tool. The average is just over 1.5 per hour firefight. These clashes, 24 were fatal victims and 20 people were injured. They were also registered 50 clashes resulting from police operation.
The city of the region with the largest number of records was the Slum Set German in the North Zone of Rio. In the Baixada Fluminense, the city of St. Johns Wood was the place more registered records of violence.

Population

Rio has 16 milions people living here. about 50,000 people die each year and Rio is one of te most violent city.
The infrastructure of the city can not meet the demand for urban mobility, security and even basic sanitation. And that is visible by the amount of homeless people living in the city and sleeping in the streets.
So the population needs compete for resources that are available, what causes violenia described above.
In additin to this, the geography of the city with beach and nearby hills, put rich and poor being almost neighbors, generating big diparity .

So I should not go to Rio?

Of course you go!
