Reduce dalla fiera "I love reptiles" condotta insieme a @lorenzosparti, non potevo farmi sfuggire questo vero gioiellino della natura, la Macodes petola.

Stiamo parlando di un'orchidea terrestre alquanto appariscente, non tanto per il fiore, ricercato nelle orchidee, ma per il fogliame che presenta, piuttosto insolito.

E' una pianta originaria della Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Philippines e nelle isole Ryukyu. Parliamo di luoghi con elevati tassi di umidità dove la stagione secca è molto ridotta.

Le temperature che richiede son piuttosto elevate, comprese tra i 21/30° C a seconda della stagione e con minime di 16/19° C. Sebbene questo clima possa sembrare molto afoso, in realtà la Macodes ama molto le correnti d'aria, vuole il fresco, le quali evitano soprattutto in coltivazione possibili marciumi radicali.

Proprio per questo il substrato adatto deve essere piuttosto fresco e drenante, allo stesso tempo molto umido e mai asciutto (prestare molta attenzione ai ristagni idrici).

Back from the "I love reptiles" fair conducted with @lorenzosparti, I could not miss out on this true gem of nature, the Macodes petola.

We are talking about a rather showy terrestrial orchid, not so much for the flower, sought after in the orchids, but for the rather unusual foliage that it presents.

It is a plant native to Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, the Philippines and the Ryukyu Islands. We are talking about places with high humidity rates where the dry season is very low.

The temperatures it requires are rather high, between 21/30 ° C depending on the season and with minimums of 16/19 ° C. Although this climate may seem very sultry, in reality Macodes is very fond of air currents, wants the cool, which mainly avoids possible root rot in cultivation.

Precisely for this reason the suitable substrate must be rather fresh and draining, at the same time very moist and never dry (pay close attention to water stagnation).

Le foglie sembrano brillare come filigrana creando disegni veramente fantastici. Le dimensioni della pianta non sono notevoli, tende a crescere più orizzontalmente che verticalmente, una pianta adulta è un po' più grande di questa che avete visto.

The leaves seem to shine like watermarks creating truly fantastic designs. The size of the plant is not remarkable, it tends to grow more horizontally than vertically, an adult plant is a little bigger than this one you saw.

It is still not clear whether these flashy designs have a functional function from the point of view of the plant or of communication with the external environment.
