Tonight I was recording a vlog about parenting and I was reflecting on some of our more challenging times, our move from California to Idaho.
<
When we decided to make the move, we weren't sure where we were going to end up. We decided to buy a 33 ft travel trailer and my husband and I, along with 3 kids (ages 8, 5 & 2) would travel through Idaho until we found a home to buy. We lived in that trailer for 4 months before finding a property, and when we did, it was just a large shop, so we lived in that trailer for an additional 14 months while we built our home.
Yes, that is me, covered in books, including the ABC book featured in this post. Apparently, I fell asleep reading to my 2 yr old, and my husband walked into this scene. I was so exhausted, my toddler buried my face in books and I slept right through it!
Bedtime routines are huge in my house, we read tons of books, so packing light in the trailer really made bedtime a challenge. The kids didn't have the variety to choose from that they were accustomed to. I had to get creative.
They started getting tired of the same old books, so one day I made up this little tune to go along with one of our favorite Dr. Seuss books, ABC An Amazing Alphabet Book. I purposely made it very mellow and BORING to help lull them off to dreamland.
It worked like a charm, until I got sick and lost my voice. I told myself I would record it in case I ever lost my voice again. Then guess what? I lost my voice again! And I had not recorded it. So, here's my little tune for Dr. Seuss's ABC book.
I don't expect any adult in their right mind to sit in and listen for the full 5 minutes, unless you're looking to fall asleep. But maybe you have a kid that won't fall asleep. Maybe this will give you an idea for something to do with one of your own favorite bedtime stories.

this is really sweet @crowbarmama, my girls love Dr Seuss too, I must say you have a lovely voice, I will play it for them one day xx
Thanks so much! I hope they enjoy it! We don't do much screen time in the evenings, which is why I chose to not say anything and just sing. I know if I played music for my kids at bedtime and they heard a speaking voice before the song they would perk up and want to see where it was coming from. This way a parent could choose to play it without showing the video if they wanted.
OMG! That was amazing! We have that book too, only I don't sing as lovely as you and it is usually my upbeat book for when they need to be distracted from tearing the place apart. Ha ha ha! You did an amazing job singing that book. Also, I love the photo of you sleeping buried in books. Tonks looks like he is just having a hay day. Oh mama! -Aimee
I have sung it to them in a jazzy-upbeat way in the car. Maybe I should record that version for you! I could even do it with the guitar! Oooh... I've got an idea brewing! Lol!
Yeah, that was surreal, waking up to books all over my face! Little Stinker was quite proud of himself and that he took Mama's phone!
Oh, I love when ideas begin to brew. If you do record a jazzy version I will absolutely play it for them. 😄 -Aimee
I agree with @captainbob.

Nice one @crowbarmama. My son don't really have any lullabies to help him to sleep and I know if I started to read to him, I will end up like you ... fall asleep with the book covers my face. Haha
Yes, I was quite exhausted that day! Reading books can be dangerous! Haha!
Aweee :) Looking forward to the day I get to do this for mine!
Yep, it's a pretty special time at bedtime. They grow up so fast!
