I firstly heard about OnePlus with the announcement of OnePlus one (April 2014). It was the first flagship killer and we all saw the storm it made. A new phone offers great performance, quality and a competitive price. I believed in that startup whose priority was the customers themselves not their pockets like the famous companies at that time.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get this phone because it was in a limited number and sold only by invitations. I then knew about OnePlus 2 and onePlus X and finally OnePlus 3 which I was able to buy and It's actually my mobile phone till now, 3 and 3t were "really good" I'm very satisfied with what I have. But I was excitedly waiting the OnePlus 5 and I had many high expectations, however, the phone actually didn't offer something new! The dual camera option is a challenge to a startup I know, but even the camera of OnePlus 5 is not the best in the market so what does the phone really offer?
1.Rising prices.
(source: PhoneArena)
I thought the difference between 3t and 5 is not a big deal but wait.. The price is another aspect, while the OnePlus one was for 300$, we see the price is going to rise every time, so Oneplus 3 went to 400$ and then the company announced OnePlus 5 for 500$ so what is they actually doing? The most important thing in oneplus is that it's "super and affordable".
2. Two new phones/year.
to stay competitive doesn't mean to release a new flagship whenever another company does. Apple for example Announces a new iPhone for a year, Samsung does the same. on the other hand, OnePlus 3 which was released in June 2016 is followed by 3t, 5 and 5t in just a year! It is making your phone gets an old-fashion feel quickly. But, maybe that is what "Never settle" meant.
3. They don't offer long-term updates.
Although the device always offers high performance and powerful OS but we need to be updated in a better way. let's take OnePlus 3T for example, The phone was released in November 2016 and It was announced that they will not send official updates after the Oreo version, which was released in August 2017! So as a 3T owner, they support you with updates for just a year. And this is really annoying.
An important note:
I believe that they are the best in the market but maybe if I wanted to change my phone, I'll think and compare with another companies. Before that I was a huge fan-boy and ready to buy whatever they make.
but yet, I still love my OnePlus. I'm just showing some points that annoy me and maybe when the company considers them, It will be so hard to compete it.
They make the best phones but not the best ads... lol
