From History: Today's Famous Birthdays

This is an effort to provide some information on Five selected famous personalities born on this day.

1. Muhammad Ali

Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. famously known as Muhammad Ali was a American professional boxer and activist who is one of the greatest boxers of all time.

He began training as boxer by the age of 12 and by 18, he was so matured as a boxer that, he went on to win a gold medal in 1960 Summer Olympics held at Rome under light heavyweight category and he also turned professional the same year.

Such was his progress as a boxer that, by the age of 22, he had acquired WBA, WBC and lineal heavyweight titles.

Born as Cassius Clay, later he converted to Islam in order to oppose the racial discrimination that was happening and to support the Civil Rights Movement started by Martin Luther King Jr. and others, thus becoming Muhammad Ali.

He was named a record 6 times by The Ring Magazine as "Fighter of the Year" and named as Sports Personality of the Century by BBC.

Ali had been honoured with Presidential Medal of Freedom and Presidential Citizens Medal.

2. Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin was an american who had an expertise in many fields such as author, statesman, civic activist, diplomat, politician, scientist and many more.

He is regarded as one of the founding fathers of United States.

As a scientist, he was known for his theory of physics on his discoveries related to electricity.

After United States of America was formed, he served as the first Ambassador to France.

His other inventions/achievements include, formation of University of Pennsylvania.

3. Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, screenwriter, comedian and producer who is best known for his comedy and slapstick performances which are highly impressive.

He is famous for his comedy roles in movies like The Mask, Bruce Almighty, Ace Venture: Pet Detective, Me, Myself & Irene, Batman Forever.

He also acted in some serious roles in movies like The Truman Show, Man on the Moon(both earned him Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor) to prove that he is not just for comedy roles.

4. Maia Chiburdanidze

Maia Chiburdanidze is a Georgian Grand-master and seventh women's world chess champion who at that time, was the youngest to become women's world chess champion.

She is a winner of 9 chess Olympiads.

She is also the second woman to be awarded with Grand-master title.

She was women's world chess champion for 14 years by winning the title for the time in 1977 and then defended that 4 times in 1981, 1984, 1986 and 1988 before losing her title in 1991 to Chinese player Xie Jun.

5. David Lloyd George

David Lloyd George was a British statesman who served as Chancellor of Exchequer and then Prime Minister of Britain from 1916 to 1922.

He was instrumental in the famous Paris Peace Conference in 1919.

He was voted as "third greatest Prime Ministers of the Britain" in a poll conducted by MORI.

He was honoured with Order of Merit, Knight of Race, Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour(by France).

Oh, that would have been nice if Muhammad Ali still stayed with us. Hope you know that he passed away in year 2016. He was a charismatic personality as a boxer and in real life too.

I didn't Know that Muhammad Ali and Jim Carrey were born on the same day. Tanks for sharing @coolguy123 just learned something new today.

Wow, Jimmy Carrey? Awesome! Today happens to be my Momma's birthday too but i guess the only legacy she's made so far is cooking good meals chuckles happy birthday to them and my momma today.
