Steemit Openmic Week 71 - Byłam różą (Acoustic Cover of Kayah)

in #openmic7 years ago

This is the third day that I tried to record a song for openmic, and fourth song that I recorded. These last days, were for me to about listening to myself and doing things that I feel are really true for me. (and somehow nothing felt right, argh, do you know that frustrating feeling?)

Ironically enough, I have found my calling in this Polish song - I do not speak Polish (sorry for mispronunciation lovely people of Poland). I just love it. The depth, the pain, the rolling rrrrrs. (Finally the rrrrs. You know, English might missing out on couple of cool sounds :)
I think even without understanding the words you can feel it - it is an emotional roller coaster.

Also, random observation - this is an ultra comfortable position to sing songs and play guitar. I think I might incorporate it into some stage performing. Try it and let me know, if you love it as much as I do ;)

Original from Kayah and Bregovic.
In case you are curious, here are the lyrics - google translation below, and some chords, play along if you are into it :) I am still waiting to meet my Balkan guitarist :)

Kiedyś byłam różą h G
Dla twojego serca A F# G
Kiedyś byłam różą twoją A D
Cierniem jestem dziś F# h
Gdy się przyglądasz mi A G
Nie kobietą F# h H7
Bóg mi daje e D A
Bóg mi odbiera D F# h G
Kiedyś różą byłam e
Lecz nie jestem teraz F# h G F#

Od czasu do czasu h e
Jakbym słyszała nadal G A
Jak przechodzisz przez mój próg h e G
Miły A
Od czasu do czasu h e
Choć wiem że nie mam prawa G A
Bo nie jestem twoja już h e h

A na moim dachu h G
Gniazdo znów ożyło A F# G
Do domu bociany wróciły A D
A ja śniłam znów że jak one tu F# h A G
Wrócisz miły F# h H7
Bóg mi daje e D A
Bóg mi odbiera D F# h G
Kiedyś różą byłam e
Lecz nie jestem teraz F# h G F#

chorus + outro

Translation:
I used to be a rose h G
For your heart A F # G
I used to be your A D rose
I'm a thorn today F # h
When you look at me, A G
Not a woman F # h H7
God gives me D A
God takes from me D F # h G
I used to be a rose e
But I'm not now F # h G F #

From time to time h e
As if I still heard G A
How do you go through my threshold h e G
Dear A
From time to time h e
Although I know I do not have the right G A
Because I'm not yours anymore

And on my roof h G
The nest has come alive again, A F # G
Storks returned to the house, A D
And I dreamed again that like they are here F # h A G
You will come back, dear F # h H7
God gives me D A
God takes from me D F # h G
I used to be a rose e
But I'm not now F # h G F #

This old folk song originates from Međimurje, Croatia originally performed by Bijelo Dugme (Goran Bregović like you said above) lyrics are very old, and were preserved by Vinko Žganec

Amazing performance @chaifm just got to see you for the first time today, checking your entries by bits, you carry a mean tune, keep it up 👍

In case you haven't heard the original performance "Ružica Si Bila" from Bijelo Dugme see below, check Bijelo Dugme out, they are rock pioneers from Yugoslavia that resonate to this day in the region

ha! I did not know that :) thanks for the info, what a different version :)

nice to meet you :)

likewise @chaifm :)
Are you Polish by some chance?
Do you know of amazing Dikanda, they also made some incredible covers for old Balkan folklore songs?

I am from Slovakia :) no idea, will check it out

@chaifm you are in for a treat with Dikanda, a full on diverse gypsy/acoustic/folk music from all parts of the eastern europe, I have a feeling you might like it, maybe...you never know 😉 I'll check Katarina Malikova

Nice @chaifm "Pustvopol" is an amazing album, gone through half of it by now still listening...

Very nice!!!

That song is magic! And then you. The cherry on the top. Thanks so much for recording!!

Awesome singing and playing!

Quite lovely, @chaifm! Yes, I like your perched posture and slight variations thereof for a performance theme. I think it can work! :-)

Hello @chaifm. I don't mean to be forward, however, I was just reviewing my picks and honorable mentions for week 71 and couldn't help but notice how this particular entry seemed so well-suited for you to "cover."

Check this tune out by Mr. Bloom and see if you can feel where I'm coming from...

Just tossing this out there to you because I think you can cover this in such a way that gives it a whole new meaning and purpose...

In the event you disagree - do accept my humble aplogies... I'm just trying the best I can to promote everyone I love in the best possible way...

... Much love... .x :-)
