Open Mic Week 13

Thanks for supporting, upvoting, Resteeming and entering Open Mic, a community of music lovers for music lovers and musicians.

2 Votes = Win Win

You can help support Open Mic by making sure to vote two times.

  • Once on this post so the payouts for the winners will make this contest self-supporting. We're very grateful @pfunk is helping out right now, but helping this post with upvotes gives more rewards to the winners and the contest will be self supporting.

  • And vote a 2nd time on the link of your favorite entry's post found in the comments below. This will help support all the musicians that entered, even if they didn't win the contest.

  • In fact, some entries earned very well, even though they didn't win. And that's good because musicians need to eat.

Winners from week 12 will be announced tomorrow, Monday, Decermber 26th, 2016 so be sure to follow @luzcypher for updates and thanks for everyone that entered, upvoted and resteemed Open Mic.

Open Mike Process

Keeping it short and sweet, here is the flow of considerations for the Open Mic contest:-

  • Need to promote community participation in spirit of Open Mic night.

  • So.. Open Mic submissions in comments, community voting and reblogging is encouraged.

  • However, we need to avoid public vote abuse and keep a certain standard for Open Mic night.

  • So.. community voting as first filter, before internal voting.
  • Another problem: late submissions are usually disadvantaged as they get less attention on the contest post.
  • So.. we've tried to mitigate such a problem by including unique votes of Open Mic submissions in their own blog posts.
  • IT IS CRUCIAL WHEN YOU RECORD YOUR VIDEO THAT YOU SAY OPEN MIC WEEK 13 AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR VIDEO We're looking for real live performances for this contest. Some people have posted old videos from YouTube and it's difficult to verify that it's really them performing. In the future they will be disqualified from the contest.

  • You can still post an older video if you want and enter so you can earn on your post, but prize money will not be paid out for those posts. If you want to earn the prize, make a new video and say OPEN MIC Week 13 at the start of it. If you just want to enter and don't care about the prize money, then you still can.

  • You can sing acapella if you don't play an instrument or sing to a recording if you want and still enter Open Mic.

How To Enter Open Mic Night

  • In a well lit quiet room, use your cell phone to record your performance. See recording tips here and here

  • SAY THE WORDS OPEN MIC WEEK 13 AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR VIDEO

  • Upload your performance to YouTube or other video hosting site.

  • Create a post on your own Steemit account pasting the URL of your uploaded video.

  • IMPORTANT: THE FIRST WORDS IN YOUR POST MUST READ: OPEN MIC WEEK 13 before any other text in the title.

For example: Open Mic Week 13 - Hold That Tiger by @cheetabot

  • You can title your post anything you want just be sure the first words say OPEN MIC WEEK 13.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: THE FIRST TAG ON YOUR POST MUST BE openmic All one word. No spaces.

  • REMINDER: BE AWARE THAT STEEMIT HAS A BUG AT THE MOMENT IF YOU ADD MORE THAN 4 TAGS TO YOUR POST. YOUR POST MAY NOT SHOW FOR ALL THE TAGS. IF YOU ADD ONLY 4 TAGS IT WILL SHOW IN ALL FOUR TAGS

  • POST THE LINK TO YOUR POST IN THE COMMENTS OF THIS POST. This will increase your exposure and votes while increasing the amount of prize money AND WILL LET US KNOW YOU HAVE ENTERED

Judging, and Contest Prize

  • Submit your performance in the comment / reply section by 12.00 PM UTC Time (Sunday the 1st JANUARY 2017). Find your UTC time here.
  • You may submit as many performances as you like.

  • Performances are not judged on production value, only on performance and entertainment value.

New Music Category Communities

Music Category communities are coming together on Steemit and if you're a music lover, please show support and join in the fun. Here's a few new places to find great music.

Suggestion: openmic must be the first tag to enter open mic, but adding other music related tags (such as music, music-trail) may help your post get more attention and perhaps even get curated by those music curators.

If your song is an original song, you may want to add orginalmusic as your 2nd tag.

Thank you all for the participation!

Thank you for the positive support from the Steemit community and a special thanks to @kevinwong for his guidance, encouragement and support and @verbal-d for writing a song that inspired the idea and @pfunk for helping and supporting Open Mic.

Please contact @luzcypher in SteemitChat for any further questions you may have. https://steemit.chat/channel/openmic

We would like to thank you all for your spirited participation in making this a big part of the Steemit music community!

Merry Christmas friend, you are most welcome, it was my pleasure

Thanks @kevinwong for adding some STEEM to the prizes!

Awesome! Thanks @kevinwong! Merry Christmas!

Missed open mic week 12. So here is my contest entry to open mic week 13!

My Contest Entry Post!

Good to see you back. Merry Christmas!

Thank you! Merry Christmas!

What a cool contest! Thanks for sharing, Luzcypher. I'll skip this one. But I'm following you for future ones! Upvoted too.

Cool! Look forward to your entry and Merry Christmas!

I can't sing but I can play guitar, can I enter the contest ? or maybe call a friend to sing ?

You can just play guitar too.

I like it :)

Come join us.

I'm a little confused on community voting versus internal voting, can someone help this simple guy understand a complex issue? ✊🏿

I'm not sure I understand your question. Voting is all community voting. What do you mean by internal voting?

Under the heading "Open Mike Process", the 4th bullet down it says
"So.. community voting as first filter, before internal voting."

I don't understand that bullet. 😊

Oh, I see what you mean. "Internal voting" is a panel of judges for Open Mic and only pertains to this contest. If we judged Open Mic solely on upvotes than people with more followers would have an unfair advantage to win the rewards.
Upvotes are taken into consideration but are not the only criteria. Performance, originality and entertainment value are also taken into consideration by the selection panel.

Right on! Right on! I thought I was missing a critical component of Steemit.com. Thx for the explanation. 👍🏽

Love to see the entries and a great contest idea guys! But I am curious if you do anything else for non-music open mic like they do at bars and other venues? Such as stand-up comedy (er webcam comedy?) and monologues. If so I can do a pretty good Shakespeare. Many thanks :)

Sure, why not? Give it a shot.

My voice has fully recovered and I am now able to participate at full capacity. Looking forward to hearing everyone else's entries. Here is mine, I just posted it.
