Since week #61 Open-Mic doesn't officially start until Sunday, this is a very good question "one-true." I'm guessing one could to do both as you allude to in your first scenario above, but simply wait until Sunday to enter "one's second entry" into the open-mic side of the equation. In fact, if I were entering the songwriters contest, that's what I would do.
...In doing so, as sort of a bonus, ones cross-over entry would get a bit of a double bang for ones efforts since that same entry would get exposure to both contests albeit in the staggered nature described above.
