Steemit Open Mic Week 67 : Waltzing Mathilda(cover)
I originally heard this song after hearing "And the band played Waltzing Mathilda" at the Irish Pubs.
I had to look up the song that was being referenced and loved it immediately.
I'm an American, and didn't grow up hearing this song.
I'm pretty much covering the Wikipedia search for the song that I did all those years ago.
For any Australians, I hope I didn't make an abomination...
Thanks to @pfunk and @luzcypher for being relentless, and the judges for somehow having the time and patience to do this...
Another nostalgic song for me💜
Happy Sunday friend
Happy Sunday to you too!
Hey Fergus just wanted to stop by and say as an Aussie I loved this rendition of the song, you have such a new and interesting take on an Aussie classic - I really enjoyed it :D
Also on a chance funny note - I actually did a cover of this song for my last Open Mic entry before I became a judge, just two weeks shy of a year ago - I did it as an entry for Australia day, so I'm stoked to see such an old classic out and about again.
That's awesome! I was worried about it...
I did Flower of Scotland as well, but being an American, I didn't really grow up with the songs, I heard them once, fell in love, and then started singing whatever I remembered :)
Someday I will visit Australia!
👏👏👏 Nice one mate. It's just occurred to me that the version I remember from my childhood (I’m now 65!), was not in 3/4 Waltz time. If I recall correctly, it was done more like a 'tramping' feel. Well done for giving it a more authentic feel. 👍
My default time signature is 3/4. I do a version of Symapthy for the Devil as a waltz:D
Aah, can't count to four eh? 😂😂😂😉
I would love to have a few brews with you someday and learn some of these songs you know.
Ditto!
Thank you for this. You brought up a great memory for me. I first heard this crazy as this may sound on a childrens cassette back in the late 80's early 90's. I used to sing this with my kids. lol!
There are so many fun words to say in it! Billy boiled and tucker bag... how could anyone not want to sing that?!?
Nice one, Tarot... I'm all in with Luzcy insofar as wishing to down a few brews with you whilst learning some of the many great songs you regularly grace us with! Thank you, brother! Nice!
That would be a good time. I'd also like to chill while you played your list!
You should unofficially do the songwriter's challenge after it's done.
I know you've got some stories to tell...
Ha! Like the rest of us, yes indeed I do! However, I have not been quite as blessed as many of you with the ability to turn such story's into song... At least not on demand, anyway... :-)
This is still one of my all time favorites

Dude, Tarot, my brother - you can't begin to imagine how great it makes me feel that you've taken such a liking to that song to such an extent to call it one of your all-time favorites! Don't get me wrong, I am not self-deluded, and I trust that you're defining "all-time" within very limited bounds - nonetheless - It is still quite flattering, and thank you ever so much for posting the link! You rock, brother!
This one and the one where you call out "Vivianne" go through my head all the time. I randomly yell Vivianne out while I'm walking around town.
Ha-ha!!! It's crazy what our minds do! I was actually calling out "Steemians" vs. Vivianne - although I like the idea of Vivianne better now that you brought to the fore! :-)
Also, in pretty much every song I've written about a woman, I was trying to say what you say in You Know it's Me.
I hear you, brother... It's truly a timeless tale... :-)
Its a good song, the trick is doing it without laughing :)
