I received this email today and remembered that I had gotten another one recently that I had ignored. When I looked more closely into it I remembered the address to the site and it hit me what it was. My first Litecoin mining pool! I was reminded of when I got to learn about Bitcoin in early 2013 and when I gave up mining it at some point when the difficulty went really high. I stumbled upon Litecoin instead which was one of Bitcoin's, dare I say, first forks? I went to the website and of course I had forgotten what password I had been using at the time even though it was probably something unsafe and simple cause I didn't care enough back then to secure things (a lesson I learned in a harsh way later).
So I reset my password, log in and lo and behold I see this.
How crazy looking at the difficulty at the time and when I decided that its going up way too much for me to make it profitable anymore. What an idiot I was back then, or just uninformed or just underestimating the power of blockchain at the time.
I do remember when Litecoin went up to $40 with Bitcoin going past $1000 for the first time and me going back to try and mine a bit more Litecoin but it just felt impossible at the time. The 27 I had managed to mine when difficulty was still under 1k were more than I would ever manage to mine again in a lifetime. It is kind of a crazy thought, but the difficulty right now is around 9 million.
I'm not really making this post to brag about me being clever or lucky enough to mine some of these coins early when most of us that happened to hear about them brushed them aside. I'm just trying to prove a point of how easy it is for early adopters to earn a currency, but just as easy for them to decide to get rid of it because it doesn't feel worth to hold. Time and patience has been the miners and traders worst enemy in crypto and I have felt this mistake many times over the years. Of course that currency has to prove itself valuable over time as well else you're just holding something no one cares about buying, but is the risk worth it?
I don't know, I personally feel that even if Steem never takes off, if this becomes a failed experiment, I don't see myself ever selling too much of it. This invention and our activity and odds of happening to be here and this involved as we are today only happens once in a lifetime, I'd rather take the chance of holding something that might become worthless in the long run than sell all of it now and never be able to "mine" it back or buy it back before it blasts off into the atmosphere.
I got these certain songs, that make me think about the past.
It hurts
@acidyo Based on your experience,Which is better, mining crypto or just investing a lump some of money on crypto and hold on to it?
My brother lost 1000 LTC to a mining pool hack. The most I lost was 100,000 XRP when Big Vern decided to take everyone’s coins and shut down crypsy
That's a lot! Wow. How much was it worth when he lost it?

I always ponder about this. I wonder about what to do if everything falls apart, if all my coins decide to perish, but at the same time I refuse to let go of the basics because I see the success of the early adopters and remember the time I foolishly sold the small amount I had in btc, only for it to multiply hundreds of times.
I don't think we'll get to that point with Steem, but then again, I didn't think that either back then when I didn't seize the opportunity to hold cryptocurrencies early on. Who's to say that history is not going to repeat itself and I will be calling for the wrong side both times?
I hate the uncertainty but it also adds to the excitement of innovation and participating in such a new project that has so much potential. I hope we're right and this goes to the moon like it does in our dreams. But if it doesn't, I won't have the heart to sell out on time.

Hello, I am really new in the world of cryptocurrencies but I think we should keep betting to get to the top. Someone once said: "He who does not risk, neither wins nor loses"
Mining really hasn't been worth it for all of 2018 even in the GPU side of things. So neat to see how things were back in the day and reinforce the feeling I have of missing out.
It is still early times for STEEM though. Not that I am counting on $20 STEEM but it has a lot of room to go up from $.80 We can let Bitcoin and ETH bash through and open the doors for early majority and the community here will make it so that STEEM is a great place for the normies to land and invest.
I know during the next pump/bull market im definitely going to take more profits to buy back more steem in the bear market.

Nostalgia can be toxic. We like to romanticize the past. Our memories portray a false reality. We too often remember the good whilst forgetting the pains. And the good is depicted as better than it actually was. We are left in a state of melancholy, believing that the past was always more enjoyable than the present moment.
nothing like an email that goes "Surprise! Crypto!!!"
We all probably experienced similar events some big as this and others not so much and the feeling of, if only we stick with the program/platform always hunt us but then the past is the past and the future still open for many more opportunities.

Last night I dreamed of listening to a song I haven't heard since childhood, but forgot what song it was a few minutes after waking up. It was enough to make me feel extremely nostalgic though, it was such an amazing experience... I've never felt so sad and happy at the same time before.
I love Nostalgia, it takes us back to our youth when are hormones were flying high. Those memories can make us happy
The moment of truth for steem will come in the next 2 years, if it doesn take of by then it might be overtaken by other projects and remain relatively unknown. So, we don't have to wait much longer.
Please I would love to ask, is mining something you would encourage someone to engage in?
i think i am the same with Steem. i put a lot of hard work to achieve manually what i have (it's not much for some it is for me) and i can't bare to power down even if the price goes to 1 cent.
I only feel myself spending some sbd. Also for steemit and steem i think all of us that were there since the beginning that the price was extremely low, even if it falls again our mindset won't be affected that much cause we ve been there
Yep. Like with everything else in life, good things come to those who wait. HODL and profit.
Also, on an unrelated topic, you don't know me, but right when I was starting my steemit journey you upvoted a meme of mine and that's when I realised that you can actually make money here. So thank you for that @acidyo. You are propably the number one reason I am still here trying to rake that Steem Power!
Best of luck!

To undermine one of those must now be very difficult!
Life has taught you many things about cryptocurrencies and that will not happen again!
I met several who had something similar, but with Bitcoin!
When it did not cost anything they just let him lose only they did not recover it like you, it would be rich! to have that patience that the miners and the people who buy the coins have to have is very difficult.Wow that if it's a surprise @acidyo!
I wish I could get an email like that! maybe not with 25, I just settle for about 2 of those, I would take away the sadness that I have because that would save my life in this moment of deep abyss where it is now.
Although that would only happen in dreams, because I lost the few coins I managed to buy, thanks to the stupid we have as president!
