Making Orcs Great Again: A Visual Story Concept
Today, I found myself wondering how I would tell a visual-orc story, and it got me thinking about how to breathe new life into these iconic fantasy creatures.
In a world saturated with cookie-cutter depictions, I envision reviving orcs in a "new" and exciting way.
Imagine reimagining the appearance of orcs. Instead of the emphasis on human-like features that is common today, I would emphasize their sturdy, hulking figures with rugged green skin, crooked gaits, and piercing eyes.
These are creatures born from the earth, embodying primal strength and untamed ferocity.
However, appearance alone does not define the essence of the orc. Their true essence lies in their unwavering propensity for war.
In my visual story, I envision preserving the core aspect of their nature, showcasing their prowess on the battlefield and the thrill of combat that courses through their veins.
Yet, beneath their warlike exterior lies a rich culture of spiritual beliefs and practices. Here, the focus is on the concept of omens from their god, Gruumsh, adding a layer of mysticism and complexity to their society. These omens serve as starters of conflict, guiding the orc clans in their endless quest for dominance.
In crafting this visual narrative, the desire is to reclaim the essence of orcs, returning them to their rightful place as iconic figures of fantasy lore. By embracing their primal origins, celebrating their warrior spirit, and delving into the mysteries of their faith.
I eagerly anticipate the resurgence of the orcs, envisioning a future where they once again ascend to legendary status in the fantasy genre.
