Welcome to Steemit! It's good to see more TSU folks come on board to Steemit. I'm glad @dswigle was able to get you here, finally! There are a lot of people that know you and remember you! Here's one of my oldest posts here on Steemit - from September 2016! - that compares TSU and Steemit. I hope it helps you get started. In some areas, things have changed since I made this post, but much of it is still good. There are a lot of TSU folks here on Steemit -- and making it a better place, too. I hope you have a great time here and lots of success! Thanks for explaining how you set up such a great photo, too. It sure gave me some insight. And I think I've learned something just by seeing your 1000 ISO, too. I've always hesitated to put my camera with that high of an ISO, thinking the image would be too grainy. But your Junco is so crisp and clear! They are an under-appreciated little bird!
Thanks so much for the lovely welcome! I am meeting up with many old friends, so this is really great! I'm reading your post right now and it's very helpful.
About the ISO... it depends on which camera you have, but in general all recent camera bodies are getting better at handling higher ISO. I use the Nikon D750 which is pretty good in this respect, and I will often push the ISO to 1600 for birds. In my experience, you can get away with high ISO unless you decide to brighten the photo or push the shadows too much in post processing... then the noise will often get pretty bad.
I'm happy you like the photo... I just posted a gif made from 9 or 10 stills of this Junco. If interested you can find the gif here: https://steemit.com/photography/@keithboone/a-bird-to-brighten-your-day
It's great to reconnect with you here! Thank you again :)
