I've been listening to avant-garde musician William Basinski a lot lately. In particular an album called Disintegration Loops which is essentially an hour long track where the same melody is played over and over again with slight variations. It's completely entrancing and has a somewhat hypnotic feel to it. I was inspired to make a track and came up with this piece I call: The Rings of Jupiter
I also edited the video. The footage comes from a trip me and my boyfriend took to Gaspesie (in Quebec). Alongside the highway there was a beach with an art installation of stone sculptures embedded in the water. It really added something special to unexpectedly come across this art.
Sometimes art is all about the placement.
Update:I've just released new track and video: see it here! https://steemit.com/music/@juliakponsford/original-music-electric-eyes-ambient-electro-track-video
If you like my work and want to see more I just made a post about my experiences with pinhole camera photography: https://steemit.com/photography/@juliakponsford/i-made-pinhole-cameras-with-a-coffee-can-and-a-box-and-developed-these-prints-in-my-bathroom
Thank you for sharing the inspiration for your music. I love ambient music and anything including the sea. The sunset at the end was beautiful, the huge rays are awesome but I really like the opening scene with the lense flairs that almost start to look like planets!
Ambient + ocean seem to go very well together! I posted this to someone else in the thread but you may like it too?:
I appreciate the listen and the comments very much <3
I like the editing style, nice touch! The music fits very well.

Thanks! We took the footage on a potato quality camera and I slowed it down so it almost looks like stop motion.
Little bit creepy. I'm into it.
0_0 I like creepy, haha thanks :)
Something about the haunting music and the waves lapping at those stone people, slowing turning them back into sand that made me think of the impermanence of all things material. Very thought provoking and a fine piece of creativity you have here. <3
Aww that's such a nice comment, I appreciate you taking the time to listen ❤️
It was haunting and beautiful. Thank you for sharing. <3
Oh my goodness, I made it into trending/music!
Thanks to all who voted for me ❤️
I love Tim Hecker! Are you a Brian Eno fan? He's a big inspiration to me, also he has such a big discography I still haven't heard it all yet. I just heard the ship for the first time recently :
It's a 20 min song, he just starts singing at around 4 minutes in his voice is heaven!
Looks like we have similar music tastes :) I'm listening to your track as I write this, very chill, I'm definitely going to follow your page <3
Awesome, yeah I love Eno and The Ship is wonderful. If you like his singing, his early few albums are great for that, particularly Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy. He also made an album of poetry and music called Panic of Looking which is pretty cool:
Thanks for your kind words on my track. I look forward to hearing your future stuff.
Cheers! Have a great day!
I love your ambiance @juliakponsford! 🎵
I feel you.
I'm glad your feeling it!
Reminds me of the new Sufjan Stevens project, planetarium, has similarly cerebral vibes although yours is more stark and minimal.
You mentioned Disintegration Tapes, perhaps I should check it out... I will admit I have a hard time with some ambient music, haven't gone much deeper than Tim Hecker
I really like Sufjan Stevens but I haven't heard his newest one, I'll check it out. Disintegration loops is great to put on in the background if you're reading or napping, very meditative. Thank you for taking the time to listen, I appreciate it ^_^
Very good one there
Thank you I'm happy that you like it! I appreciate the listen <3
i like your post, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for listening!
really nice : ) i like this style
Thank you so much I appreciate the listen!
Glad you're on here sharing this kind of original work! This was haunting, but also very jarring - with the sirens in the background and the radar pings. Reminded me of Vangelis's Blade Runner soundtrack as well, which ain't a bad thing. Looking forward to more!
"haunting but also very jarring"

I'm going to put this in my bio, haha. Thank you so much for the nice comments, i followed you so I can hear some of your music :)
Haha - it's beautiful as well! Thanks for the follow. I followed you right back! :)
I really like this. I write alot of music like this...since I was a kid...but never shared it with anyone, except mom when I was little. She didn't have a choice...I wouldn't leave the piano. Anyway I am now following you. You have sparked inspiration in me. That is a sacred thing. Thank you. Inlakesh.
Aww thats nice, thank you! You should share your music, why not!
Well I do...just not that style...yet...I am a songwriter and got my start in Nashville when I was 16. I have shared music that way--commercially--behind the curtain. Now I just posted a song I wrote specifically for the Open Mic 39. This is not commercial. I can't imagine the market ever picking something like this up. If you have time and feel like hearing something different...have a listen. No matter what you think of it--like, or dislike--please let me know about that on my blog of it. Anyway, I look forward to hearing more of your stuff. I really do like it. I will keep an eye out for you.
Oh I see, your a behind the scenes songwriter! I will definitely have a listen :)
i love william basinski. his album cascades is my favorite.
yes, that one is so pretty!
I just saw that you resteemed me, thanks for that!
well done !
Thank you for listening!
The song itself is really calming but I seem to get distracted by the quality, it sounds washed out. It's not a criticism of the music but it can be mastered differently for it so sound better. Sorry I'm not really an audiophile but it's noticeable with headphones.
I will fully admit that am not a mastering expert, I'll take your comment to heart though and keep learning, thanks!

I think i can see where this is going lol!

Honestly, everything that is transmitted is great, I feel like a child listening to it.
I love that, thanks for the comment, I see you have a Soundcloud so your a musician? I'm following you, can't wait to hear it. Also I see you resteemed me, much appreciated <3
Yes, I am a musician haha, I really do not start using soundcloud until now, you can listen to the only cover that I have uploaded (for now), I am working hard to record and keep going up tracks, so you will see many more in the next days!
Awesome can't wait!
now thats just cool! i love this. gorgeous sounds and imagery! following you now
Thank you so much, I see your a musician too, I'm following back for sure :-)
this track is very peaceful. I love the vibe of the visuals, the purple shade is so ephemeral
Thank you so much! When I was doing the colouration I scrolled all around the wheel and the pink/purple just seemed right <3
Ambient music is like a buried remembrance. Very powerful and deep. Keep the good work.
Very true, thank you <3
Did you guys try tuning to 432 Hz? I'll never go back to 440 :)
My technical skills are not high enough to know what that means, lol. I feel like I should know though, I'll be googling that!
Weren't you playing a stringed instrument? You can tune lower to 432 Hertz instead of 440 Hertz or 443 Hertz.
It was all done in reason!
Took me 2 secs to google ;)
Ah thanks, I keep thing pretty simple on the technical side but I hope I learn a little something with every track. I thought you were asking how I tuned a physical instrument 😄 Thanks for the link!
Trying to say that tuning lower like for instance 432Hz sounds really good and a lot of people agree :) DJ Tiesto?
@juliakponsford she is one of my favourite artist for a long time now. I am happy that more people get to know her.
<3
Excellent music, very evocative, and superb visuals too!
You have a new follower - thank you and I look forward to more of your compositions a.s.a.p!
Thanks so much. I'm actually preparing an upload at the moment. Should be up tonight :) little bit of a different style though!
Cool song, enjoyed the track, really love Basinski! I'm wondering what do you think of this? https://steemit.com/music/@wvm/recording-a-piano-orchestral-piece-for-official-release-will-use-what-ever-steem-power-this-blog-generates-to-help-finance-it
I love the track it's got a really eerie vibe, the project sounds cool too! I'm sure you'll make enough to record your track! Up voted and followed! I'll be uploading another track tonight. Stop in and have a listen if you like :)
This song will fit perfectly in #steemradio-chill! Feel free to add it!
What can you read on @steemradio today:
Hey DJ! Let me hear your DJ Mix!

:) Thank you <3
thank you for this inspiring video and music! really dreamlike and surreal.. I also make music and wanted to make some videos but never had an idea of what to do.. now you give me ideas.. and faith! and as a capricorn, a sign ruled by the planet saturn, I love saturn and its rings.. :) so thank you for the beautiful gift. Looking forward to hear your new works. I follow you now! peace
Thanks again! I'm lucky that my boyfriend is a professional video editor and he has taught me so much, I am proud to say that I managed these two without his help! I usually run into a snag and need his help at some point but I'm getting more comfortable with the software :)
Well it looks really cool!!! I'd love to create some dreamy poetic videos like that.. I use final cut for videos, what do you use to get this really cool effect?
I use Adobe premiere, I am just learning after effects which allows a lot of options to animate! I'm starting to work on another video now, I hopefully will have some after effects in that if all goes well!
great I will try premiere, never used it before.. thanks for your help
My pleasure!
Simplicity...the key to beauty!
One of my favorite composers Arvo Part said: you can live in the space between the notes. I try to take that to heart, the silences can be very powerful :l
Interesting! I love hearing peoples reactions, it's so special to know you can alter someones mood with art, thank you, I hope you didn't get motion sickness <3
