What is MediBloc
MediBloc is a medical data platform and an open-source healthcare data platform that is developed using blockchain technology.
It puts control of all medical data back into the hands of patients.
It also allows the patients to share their medical data to relevant parties.
It brings together, scattered medical data from various healthcare institutions with utmost security
MediBloc creates platform that will enable patients have full access to their medical records and also enable them manage their personal records.
MediBloc was created to
offer healthcare data exchange platform, which will promote interoperability and allow all entities and medical institution to freely take part in exchange of medical data
MediBloc Was founded by Dr. Allen Wookyun Kho and Dr. Eunsol Lee, who are well equipped to carry out this project.
They are working as a team, developing MediBloc using blockchain technology in order to eradicate challenges facing the medical records system.
MediBloc has a team who came together to build a blockchain that will enable them have full access to the technology at their own disposable.
The team's mission statement
To improve health care access and experience by redistributing value of personal healthcare date, accelerating the world's shift to provide information decentralistion
The medical data industry
This is an industry which provides and have access to health care related information that concerns patients care or part of a clinical trial program Source
These data can be categorized in several forms of which electronic health records is a well known form of medical data. It provides a record of patient's medical history and information.
Most industries utilizes these forms to have access to patient's medical records. These forms limits these industries or institutions to a particular area, within the reach of the patient
Challenges
There are challenges facing the medical records system which are;
- Centralisation of Medical data
- Laws that restricts access to medical data
- Lack of digitalisation
Medical data are centralised due to variations in medical institutions between countries and within a particular country, for this reason, data cannot be shared outside such medical institutions and regions.
MediBloc using it's blockchain technology, patients can have full access and control of its medical records, in other words, they can decide whether or not to give permission to access their health and medical records regardless of the institution's location.
MediBloc using it's blockchain technology can allow storage of patients medical records and information produced outside the institutions and health bodies.
Many researchers and data analysts finds it difficult to access medical records due to privacy policies and laws. These laws regulates how and who to access medical data.
For Example
In a developing country like Nigerian, researchers and data analysts due to privacy laws do not have full access to patient's medical records, for such persons or institutions to have access, he or she must be given an ethical approval by authorities, this was to ensure preservation of autonomy, confidentiality and privacy of medical data of the patient.
Since MediBloc gives patient's complete power over their medical data, patients can choose to give permission to their health data.
By this, such patient is now in charge of its privacy laws. There is no need to pass through authorities to access a patient's medical records
In developing a country like Nigeria, digitalization of medical data is at its low rate and may take process to be standardized, this in turn brings set back to accessing medical data.
MediBloc through its blockchain technology can help digitalize access to medical records in developing countries.
can impact on the way data is used in medical field through the following
They provide utmost security to patient's and user's medical records, this ensures that the patient's medical data is shared with their permission
MediBloc allows researchers and institutions to conduct studies on medical records with utmost privacy of medical data
MediBloc has created tools such as the open source API and SDK within its blockchain, which will enable developers create application that will help improve health care institutions
Partners
MediBloc is partnering with large medical institutions which includes
- Hanyang University Medical Center
- Lying Her University Dental Hospital
and other internationally recognized accounting firms and establishment.
MediBloc partnering with these institutions will enable it's technology reach the target users
Digital medical data storage Vs Traditional medical data storage
MediBloc using it's blockchain technology can store lots of medical informations in a decentralized database while traditional data stores healthcare information within an institution
MediBloc encrypts data using private keys and can store data outside its blockchain while traditional medical data storage may not have the full potentials to do so
MediBloc provides back up system that will prevent loss of medical data while traditional data storage are not well equipped for back up system
Benefits as a User
In MediBloc, users will be rewarded for their immense contributions on the platform with MED which is a medi token, a cryptocurrency used in MediBloc
MediBloc offers users healthcare exchange platform that will enable them be a part of data exchange.
With this technology coming to place, I believe medical data can be decentralized
