Yikes! The smell must have been pretty bad too. Not just from the paper, but the other chemicals in the recycling plant as well.
San Diego had a major gas leak yesterday that shut down major highways for half the day. Luckily no fires/explosions.

I have been at home all day, upwind, so I have no idea ... but I guess so. There were plastics also burning there.
It seems like no recycling is done in this plant, only collection, compression and distribution.
Ah ok. So not horrible I guess. Good thing you were upwind!
