It’s October so that means it’s salmon season. We decided to head to my secret spot which I have been fishing with my family for about 20 years. Well I learned that the secret is out this spot was packed with fishermen, but at least I still know a few secret spots on the river.
I headed to a bend in the river that’s been good to me in the past and it’s a nice area for my wife to hoop up a hammock to read a book. The spot had about 15 fish piles into it so I was excited. This was the most stacked I’d seen the river in a long time.
It was a beautiful day in the low 60s, partly cloudy and barely any breeze. I ended up booking into 6 fish and landed one. The one I landed was a pretty good fight. Most people use spinning rods for salmon, but I opt to fish with a fly rod. I find this is much more challenging and rewarding. The fish were not really hungry which makes it difficult for a fly rod. But I was able to piss one off enough to go after my fly.
As you can see it’s a beautifully ugly fish. They really do look mean!
Very nice! That looks like a lot of fun! I have only been fly fishing once, but I did take a fly tying class at one point. I went with some friends up near Baldwin to the Pere Marquette River once. They did most the fishing, I just drank.
Haha I could of brought some beer then I could of made a beersaturday post. I love fly fishing it's slowly becoming part of my personality.
That's cool. I wish I had more time and knowledge to do it.
Here in our city also winter has come and all the people here like to eat fish very much and now their favorite fish is also available in the shops. So people go to certain places to eat it at night. This kind of experience is very special and memorable.
I only catch and release right now but some others were keep fish.
Nice fish! I've only Salmon fished in the ocean, never caught any fly fishing. Very cool!
