Treating Chronic Pain Patients (A Deeper Perspective)

in #pain7 years ago (edited)

Lately there's been a dense eery scent in the air surrounding the application of opiates for managing intractable chronic pain. Many doctors appear to be running scared as the DEA scours through fields of medical records, inspecting prescribing pads like a mouse scavenges for food in a dimly lit cellar.

Not too long ago, it seemed like doctors had loose prescribing practices without any fear of repercussion.

Nowadays, the harsh reality of loosing their license is at stake upon writing any unknown number of opiate prescriptions - and that has unfortunately been enough to discourage many doctors from taking even subtle "risks" with patients who are expressing obvious signs of pain and discomfort.

While I believe that the vast majority of human beings would choose to do the right thing, we must all work together to become the change we wish to see within every aspect of our lives.

For the time being, never give up hope.
