Work on the painting " Icarus's Dream" I started with a sketch. When I found the compositional solution, I went over to the color solution of the sketch (I made a sketch on the computer and unfortunately it did not survive). The next step was to transfer the picture to the canvas. For such purposes, I usually use ordinary charcoal, because it is easy to erase and it is very plastic.
After the drawing, I proceeded to apply an imprimatura. Basic paint mixing consisted of ocher red, with the addition of light ocher and umber. Imprimaturu applied chaotically, in places with a large addition of linseed oil, turpentine.
On the wing (sail) I applied a bit of texture paste.
I began to paint with dark colors.
The next step is to identify the lights.
Clarify the picture and fill it with color. I colored the darkest and most light areas.
The finishing phase is the longest. It included thin, layered glazes, specifying the tone, drawing and color.
