Painting miniatures: part 10#

in #painting7 years ago

Hello and welcome to another post about my work from the past as a commission miniature painter. Today I will bring you back to Warhammer with some Games Workshop models. We are going to look at the Ogres. These photos are from my last commission in Bulgaria which I took with me when I moved to London. Half of it I did back at home and the rest I took with my luggage when I was moving,. It was a low tier commission, quality wise but they still turned up quite well. The idea was to make them look a little bit like the White Walkers from Game of Thrones but give them different colours for the skin tones. I did experiment a bit and added green, blue and red shades so there was quite a bit of variety.

The Orgres

The Ogres don't consist of many models per army. All of their models are quite big compared to other Warhammer fantasy armies. They are quite bulky and it gives a lot of freedom to paint on the big torsos. Unfortunately the request wasn't for a high quality work so I had to dull that down and use techniques that would speed the process rather than stick to each and every detail. You can see some goblins helping out the Ogres too in this army. The little crafty buggers find their ways everywhere in order to gain protection from someone stronger.

This is the Firebelly - the Orge mage (or more like a shaman). I'd say it was a pretty poor attempt at source lightning on my behalf.. I did too little but didn't want to cover the work I've done on the skin completely. I am not very happy about how this one turned out since it is an amazing sculpt and I wish I did a better job.. Maybe I'll buy one for myself and paint that in the future.

Now this model is part of a crew called The Maneaters. They are mercenaries who fight for food and shiny things. They are all unique models and you buy them one by one instead of in a bundle. They are quite fun and flavourful - pirates, ninjas, middle eastern warriors etc. I love the goblin on that one that is dressed as a parrot.

The Ogre Warriors are the basic units of the Ogres. As mentioned earlier they are a lot bigger than any other basic infantry model in the game.

Some Ogres ride on these Mournfang Beasts. They are quite strong and used to be one of the strongest units in the game back in the day when they were released.

This beast is called Stonehorn. The kit actually lets you assemble it as two different beasts but that one is the one that looks a bit more intimidating and bigger. There are quite a few options on what to put on the hooks on the straps all around him. Weapons, meat steaks (yeah for real.. Ogres are mad about food), or even an Imperial Soldier that is still alive and tied up. This model I've painted quite fast using over spraying, dry brushing and glazing to get colours mixed fast and build shadows and highlights at the same time. I really like this model and was going to use it for a conversion for my Chaos Dwarfs.. might still do.

If you enjoyed that post check my previous posts about painting minis. In the last one I shared some photos of an old commission job I did for the game Malifaux.

great work!! I used to do this! it is so difficult! good on you!

Thank you! I find so many people that used to be in the hobby here on Steemit. Great to see that these bring back some old memories. :)

They become more and more horrifying lol. My favourite is the first one because of the beautiful beast smile.

Well it is the biggest of them all. Only normal that it grabs the attention the most. :)

And the scariest for sure :O

It's already not just painting minis, it's next level art.
Just look at the colours, damn you're good.

Hah thank you! These aren’t that great though. They were a bit rushed and colours is all I’ve got for them. :)

Wow thats really cool, that must have taken you some time to complete! NEW FOLLOWER!

Thank you! I did paint these fairly fast. Some of the higher standard painting jobs take me a lot longer.

Oh god this is so beautiful. You probably have really steady hand for this. Got new follower for sure <3

Thank you! The steady hand comes with practice I guess. Sometimes of the smaller details really need one. :)

Wow! Your post featured and the photo contest winner on the Whaleshares Show...you had a good day! Congratulations again!

Your painting is fantastic! The detail / shading is impressive. Keep up the great work!

Thank you Samantha! Glad you liked the work! :)

Love the ogre! The paint is so nicley done! Upvoted :)

My gosh! These are just amazing pieces you have there, I hope you could make a dragon ball tribute collection for your miniature paintings and I'm sure someone would even be willing to pay for them with high profits for you :D

Thank you very much! Don't know if there are any dragon ball Z ones out there.. probably are. Would be fun to pain in anime style.. might look for some, good idea! :)
