It is common belief in Chinese medicine that drinking cold water contracts muscles, thus it is not recommended to drink cold water. However, both cold and warm water have their own advantages when you drink it.
You can drink cold water after you work out, as your body temperature rises as a result of exercise, so cold water can normalize it. However, during eating, avoid drinking cold water because during meal, body requires energy to maintain the temperature, but drinking cold water may slowed down this process of energy production.
Drinking warm water is good soon after waking up as it increases blood circulation.
