White sand beaches, reggae and a Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville margarita. Welcome to Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Jamaica!

Seven Mile Beach is one of the more known Jamaican beaches and tourists from all over the island journey here to partake in the festivities. Access to the beach is fairly straightforward. You journey to a restaurant, hotel, etc. along the beach purchase a drink, room, etc. and then wander out to a cabana or lounger(locals seem to be allowed but I’m guessing most locals don’t go here as they don’t want to pay for access).

Once on the beach you’re free to wander the coastline, swim in the water or just kickback. There seems to be no regulations regarding where you can swim, where boats can dock, or just whose section of the beach you can explore. Just keep an eye out for incoming boats as drivers aren’t always looking for swimmers(most drivers seemed diligent enough though).

If a meal and marg aren’t your thing you can also take part, for a fee, in a variety of sea based activities. Along the Seven Miles of beautiful beach a variety of sellers offer parasailing rides, speed boat tours, JetSki rentals, cruises, glass bottomed reef tours and much more. Being on the beach for only a few hours I declined to do any of this and instead kicked back to soak in the rays. It was well worth the trip!

One parting note, while I didn’t partake, a few sketchy looking guys will come by selling weed. The people around me who did purchase weed seemed to have no issues but do note it isn’t yet legal in Jamaica.
