I think the bigger problem is that at the moment the film industry is focused on the formula that yields money: reboots and remakes.

Unfortunately, the original ideas are being swallowed up (and yielding weak financial returns to the studios). So, it's not that they don't exist... But the fact that they aren't being valued as they should be.
