The man has probably been to more funerals than most people alive - when 96 people lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough disaster of 1989, he ensured the club was represented at every funeral.

He's also probably British football's greatest footballer / manager when you look at his trophy haul. It'd be hard to argue otherwise.

And then there's Manchester....

Such a scummy place where football's concerned. One incident involving a Liverpool player allegedly 'racially abusing' a United player saw the 'attacked' player - a black Frenchman - run to TV cameras to instigate a trial by tv on hearing the final whistle. Dalglish was the Liverpool manager at the time and poured scorn on the accusations, understandably. Fergie (the United manager at the time) did like to cheat, after all.

If the United player had really been racially abused, your average person would probably have complained to the ref / punched the offender. But of course it hardly panned out that way.

I'm certainly no fan of the honours system in Britain as I hate the monarchy. But OF ALL people in football, this guy will deserve honouring more than any other in many a person's opinion.

Long overdue.
