I've been using eSteem mobile app since I joined last month until I experienced freezing, that is not a day goes by that the app don't freeze.
I was reading posts yesterday when I saw a blog post informing the availability of Partiko on iOS. I immediately checked it and there's also for Android so in hope that it is better than the eSteem app, I downloaded and used it.
I posted a comment saying that I will make a comparison and post it.
EXPERIENCE COMPARISON
For me to deliver a better comparison regarding my experience on both apps, I'm going to base my observation from Dmitry Fadeyev's 8 Characteristics Of Successful User Interfaces.
Let's have 5 of these characteristics.
- Clear
- Familiar
- Responsive
- Attractive
- Efficient
source - Clear, familiar, and attracive
eSteem has clarity. The FAQ and Welcome page are well explained briefly. Swiping to the right gives you the options which is cool. The icons used are quite familiar. I haven't had no issues figuring out what the icons are for. I love that the developers made it look more like you're using Facebook on your mobile. | Partiko did good on it's design but it lacks the options available on the eSteem app. The Settings page contains only Feedback and Sign out. The only thing that I like is the Notifications. All the activities happening with your post in one place including the option to reply without going to the main post. Only that, on eSteem, they included functions wherein you can see your last comments that you made and the last comment that a user commented on your post but thats still okay. I prefer the Notifications on Partiko. |
- Responsive
This is where the eSteem app fails. It was working fine at first but just recently the app freezes. On a daily basis, I think it freezes more than thrice. Editing with the markdown editor sometimes isn't good because as you swipe up, the area where you write your contents also move up. The texts should only be the ones moving up.
The app opens after 3 seconds. Pages load a bit slow too especially if you use the minnow support project server. I think that it can do better than that. | I can say that it's faster than eSteem mobile. It opens immediately after tapping the Partiko icon. The pages also loads fast. The app is really responsive. |
- Efficient
Dmitry says What you really really need to do to make an interface efficient is to figure out what exactly the user is trying to achieve, and then let them do exactly that without any fuss. You have to identify how your application should ‘work’ – what functions does it need to have, what are the goals you’re trying to achieve? Implement an interface that lets people easily accomplish what they want instead of simply implementing access to a list of features. What I wish eSteem to do is to add Steem power, Steem balance, and Steem dollar below the picture of the user. It would also be great if they include an option to delete any of your posts. Editing with the markdown editor is sometimes frustrating. Leaving a space blank should work as a space. If you put the code for break, it gives you like two spaces. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Posts created using the markdown editor look bad when viewed using a mobile browser. On the eSteem mobile, it looks perfect. The notifications come late and it also notifies you even if you have already seen it. You think that it's new but actually it's not. | This is where Partiko fails to attract me. There's no option to edit your post. When writing a post, you can't see any preview and you can't position your image where you want it to be. Only one photo can be uploaded. Some codes don't work on Partiko. One example is the text justification. There's one function though that I like. The notifications come on time and it's relevant and useful for me. |
So, Partiko or eSteem mobile?
Let's check on the negative side.
It freezes | You can't edit your posts |
Posts created with the markdown editor don't look good when viewed with other apps and mobile browser | Only one photo can be posted |
You can't delete your posts | No preview while writing your post |
Repeats notifications and sometimes late to arrive | Many markdown codes don't work |
Profile page is kind of unattractive. Simplicity is great but just a little more of art doesn't hurt the app
No night mode |
I might prefer Partiko if codes work, you can upload multiple photos, preview is available, and you can edit your post.
Previewing my post is important to me. I want to know how it looks like before posting. It is easier to edit if you can preview it. So for this, I'll be sticking with eSteem mobile though I might still use Partiko in checking my notifications but if everything will be fixed by the update that's going to be available next month, I'll uninstall Partiko.

Thank you for making this amazing comparison! We are working hard to deliver the features you want !
