Hang on, I said that relying on Google adsense is mental above.

What’s changed?

Well, I think that getting the traffic to a blog is a lot harder than getting views on You Tube these days, because the text-based content world is so freaking full (and thus crazy competitive), whilst the video world is so relatively empty since most people are too shy to turn their prose into video.

And hey, people would much rather watch 10 videos than read 1-2 blog posts such is the average attention span (which means so more chance to get clicks with video…maybe).

Also, from my experience Google favors You Tube in their search results big time, often putting videos for the search term at or near the top of the page – without ever really knowing the quality of the video, apart from it’s title, description and tags.

Compare that to trying to get an article ranking high in Google!

And hey, You Tube is the second biggest search engine in the world.

But the thing that really makes me think this is a solid passive income opportunity is the time to reward ratio; ie creating a You Tube video on a topic takes 5 minutes, literally, whereas writing the equivalent could be an hour plus, assuming you can even get past the writers block.

PS what really helps with You Tube is if you pick a technical topic to record videos on; the type of topic where someone is looking to solve a problem. So when they watch your video and a relevant ad pops up for a product that is perfect for them they are likely to actually click.

If that product is expensive, happy days, more ad revenue for you.

Compare this setup to say a comic vlogger…they may get more views, but there’s little chance of the same ad relevancy and pain killing product combo popping up for viewers. But with that said, comedy/entertainment is YouTube’s most popular category, so lower click through rates aren’t necessarily a killer.

Do whatever suits you – think about your passions and your personality.
