The password conundrum

in #password7 years ago

Hi I am new to Steemit and wanted to share my opinions on it so far.

The first thing I noticed is that I cannot choose my own password. Instead I am given this unwieldy string of letters and numbers and told that this is the most important thing for my account. The password is waaay too long for regular users, besides the fact that it is just a random string and thus very difficult to remember. I appreciate the need for security, but seriously, for any casual user this is just ridiculous.

The second thing is that this system of Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power is quite complicated. I'm sure many people have said this in the past but the vast majority of users will not use this site for making a living. Just look at YouTube; the serious content creators, while numerous, are only a tiny fraction of users that actually watch videos. Steemit is currently much too complicated for normal users who aren't interested in making money. Until the devs make it much simpler to use, I don't see this site gaining any significant traffic.

Just my 2 steemcents (if that's what they're called).
