I've been very busy this week, so not a lot of gaming or steeming. However, above is my response to @supersoju and @mattclarke's commentary that DoNotDieLinny will eventually meet her fate in Resurrection town!
I tried to capture as dramatic a shot as possible.
I fell victim to the deadly saws of the Ascendancy Trials.
I didn't expect them to be so fatal...I'd always considered them the easiest traps of the Trials. It was over in a blink of an eye despite how careful I was with everything else. After hearing about supersoju's experience with her first death falling to the spike traps, I was super prepared for the first one. I thought I was going to do this one comfortably...This is what happens when you are over-confident in Hardcore. It was a mistake to treat them so lightly in hindsight.

So this is where my first Hardcore character finished on.
She got to Level 22 and I was getting her Freezing pulse to a decent level too. I definitely noticed improvements in my play over my first Softcore run. I didn't get as lost and backtracked as much on the map. I used my flasks much more efficiently, especially the Quicksilver ones for speed . I paid more attention to what I was hitting, and unlike the previous run, I did more of the fighting since I had decent spell power rather than just experimenting with a bit of everything.
One thing I've not done in my other run was switch between weapons during a fight. I thought I'd use Freezing Pulse on one wand and have Fireball on a backup wand, just in case I hit on a monster that wasn't as easily affected by cold spells. I was surprised it made a huge difference on a boss in a corrupted area I was fighting. When I first fired heaps of freezing pulses, it did not much at all. Again, my zombies being so low level were all dead. So running low on life and flasks, I switched to fire in a moment of desperation. About 4-5 shots and it was dead! Other players are always reminding me to be mindful of the different vulnerability of bosses, but I've never paid much attention. I blame Softcore for me being so lazy, I could always restart. Hardcore is different. You need to figure it out or suffer the consequences.
The internet only got a little laggy at one point, but other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the hardcore experience. I'm much more attentive as a player.
Anyway, DoNotDieLinny was moved to standard league.
I am a little disappointed, but I will reflect on it and start again. She's being deleted as I have no interest in playing in the Standard League. It feels like the dumping ground of Path of Exile while everyone waits on the next league. I remain excited for that in early March, which means back to hardcore training...

I made sure to click Solo Self Found for Hardcore Betrayal. So I'm starting a new character instance with nothing in her stash.
I accept that there will be bugs and internet instability, but hardcore is still more fun for the challenge.

Looks like traps are something we need to be very VERY careful about when we play hardcore.
Also; remember when we last spoke about internet/game stability and all; how I said mine was fine; well I must have jinxed myself because things started to get laggy within the game. There has been a problem with the game server lately. Maybe because they are getting ready for the new league? I had to be extra careful because I had changed my skills and introduced a few level 1 gems that I needed to level up.
I use to swap weapons during fights in SC but things got messy when certain skill gems were placed in the weapon slots that I needed to stay put and not reset/change. But it does sound like a good plan for HC; just have to be careful what gems you put in the weapon slots.
Anyways; can't reply for long; back to work. Just popped on to read/comment.
Was supposed to reply back to this and go distracted designing a new hideout, this one dedicated to you. In response to your other reply, of course I'd design one for you without needing to be hired! It's just hard to do because it will need an export. Haven't experimented with that yet. Anyway, I made this crafting bench inspired by you. Thought you'd suit a classier crafting table. hehe.
Oh, I also got dressed up too. Cranky totally looks like drag.
I put on this new chest I thought might interest you. It's still pretty shit though, but it is focused on totems. The getting randomly cursed is no fun. XD
I know all about messing up the spells on equipment switches. I had this problem even though I never switched. Everytime I messed with my configuration, I'd switch things around on both setup.
They'll be intro-ing the new league soon. Time's running out. As for the lagging, I wasted a map due to lagging in SC, as it was unusable. I suspect when we race next league, the servers will be overloaded!

LOL the stats on the chest piece. Inflicts a random level 20 curse on you when your totem dies....so including the extra totem summon from this chest piece; I would get 6 random curses every 8 seconds lol (totem lasts 8 seconds).....or wait.... when it dies as in when the enemy attacks it and not when the 8 seconds is up?
My red coat is kind of hard to give up. I should take a screen shot of it to show you next time. But the sockets are of various colours but you can put in any colour in any socket; like the white sockets; but depending on the colour of the socket; it does something to the gem; ie increase quality; increase level by 1 and increase experience earned by 25%. I have been trying to get it to 6 link but no luck. Will try next time when I get more materials.
Uniques are hilarious with their anti-mods. It’d be funny for you to take it and try it out so we can see how many times you get randomly cursed! 🤣

Also, a lovely guy got in contact with me on FB with a unique that he thought I’d love. It sure sounded good on paper. I got half the number of zombies but they were bigger in size and stronger. Gave that a go, but I’m still not sure the benefits of that outweighs my switch of wands causing me to have less spell power. My freezing pulse dps went down from 8k to less than 5k. It’s too massive a drop. So I’m still looking at how I can make it work better. I tried to do the Merciless Lab run with him, but gave up on it. It’s impossible to do the labs together with all the mayhem of the traps. I’m really thinking the game is just much better as a single player with chat on the side for most things.
As for your red coat, share when you have a moment! I haven’t heard of the socket behaviour you’ve mentioned. Sounds interesting! I’m the same, I’m trying to craft a 6L chest too. I was surprised I managed to get it to 6 sockets, it started on 1! Cost me only 30 jewellers orbs. But have wasted the same amount of fusings with no luck. It would be satisfying if it got there, I’d be happy with a 5L, I just want better defence. All the chest I find are ho-hum or weird, like your random curse on totem deaths! Lol
You mean to see how many time I end up cursing for the amount of times I get cursed.
Sure; lets see how fast I can die from curses.
Woah 8k to 5k... my fire brand is just under 5k; the highest I've reached. Don't know what the other skills are at though. It is not very user friendly to see what dps you have with the skills.
The same happened to me; was lucky to get 6 sockets but no 6L; not even a 5L. I almost ended up with less links when I tried my luck again. I had to make sure I stopped earlier; in case I run out of materials and I end up stuffing up my current skill setup.

Congrats on level 22. I've been taken out at the kneecaps by those bastard saws too. You accidentally run in the same direction, and they'll drop your health to zero in a heartbeat.
Thanks, Matt. That’s right....zero life in a heart beat. And that is one BIG job that eclipses the many smaller jobs that is still required to stay alive...
