I agree, I don't like following builds, but I plan to research a bit more on the Occultist and freezing spells. Apparently, the Occultist is one a lot of Hardcore players like. I wonder why and want to experience it for myself. I'm pretty much working on Cranky to the part of the skill tree that is about the cold spells. So for DoNotDieLinny, I'm just prioritising that. I only want to do it for the fact that I don't want to be a necromancer again and I really have a thing for freezing pulse. When you're a slow player like me, the only strategy is to slow down the opponent even more! lol

I love smashing frozen mobs; particularly as it means they can't be resurrected.
Bad option for a necromancer build, though. You run out of corpses all the time.
That's why you carry the skill gem, Desecrate. Works like a charm. ;)
But I really haven't had any issues even without desecrate. Freezing is a chance thing, so there is always some that I must be able to resurrect, because I've never had issues with my zombies. Although, I am now planning to drop cold snap and adding in Herald of Ice, which makes those who are killed by freezing pulse explode. So that might change things. But as a necro, I always have to carry my desecrate gem, even if it's not equipped sometimes!
I had Unearth supported by totem in one of my builds a while ago.
Walk into a room, raise a totem, which starts firing all these corpses everywhere.
Use cremation to turn them into volcanoes.
Win.
Therein lies the reason PoE is so fun. There are so many ways to achieve a similar result depending on your motivation. Need some corpse? How do you wish for it to be delivered? lol
It was actually really effective, since the totem can be placed at range, then fires at range; it puts a corpse right behind the first enemy in the pack as they rush toward you, and since the damage is dealt by the player directly; there's no damage penalty from using the totem.
