Each week I talk about things to do in Grapevine, Texas. This week I wanted to do something different... If you are not from the area you might be thinking... I will never make it there or why should I go to Grapevine, Texas? If you look on a map you will find Grapevine is located just north of the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport. Why does that matter? Several reasons... :) If you have ever flown through the DFW you will know how large that airport is. Now for the reasons...
- You can catch a train or Uber from DFW airport and visit Grapevine.
- If you are here for a convention the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center has many of them... you are in Grapevine. Now I can't forget about about the Great Wolf Lodge which is a lot of fun for the kids!
- It is centrally located to both Dallas and Fort Worth. This is the main reason we chose this location to live.
- It is a small town vibe within the big city.
Now the list can go on... :) My point is there is some much to do in the area... and still easy access to 2 major city scenes. Dallas has the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza which is a world know location. Fort Worth has the Fort Worth Stockyards where the famous Billy Bob's Texas is located. Now the style, feel, and character are each unique. Dallas is well known for more of a leading edge / Now type of feel... while Fort Worth is a more laid back cowboy town. I will let you make that choice!
So I mentioned a few things about Dallas & Fort Worth... There is a new train station and hotel being built in downtown Grapevine. Here is snippet of an article from the March 7th Fort Worth Star Telegram that summarizes the details.
TEXRail will be a 27-mile passenger train with stops in downtown Fort Worth, Richland Hills, Grapevine and Dallas/Fort > Worth Airport. The train is now scheduled to start service the first week of 2019, said Paul Ballard, president and CEO of > Trinity Metro and TEXRail. The Grapevine Main station and Hotel Vin are scheduled to open in late 2019.
Plus, there is a new high speed rail being built that will be running from Dallas to Houston, Texas in 90 minutes! For more details on that you can click here. This is a future option but, not that far off. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2019.
For now though, there is Dart Rail in Dallas and The T in Fort Worth. The Trinity Railway Express connects Dallas & Fort Worth. So you have those options now.
If you want to take a vintage train ride to Fort Worth you can catch the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. It also has 2 other tours as well. Keep in mind these are weekend excursions!
That pretty well sums it up... we love the area (if you haven't figured that out yet)! We are moving in mid-July to be closer to downtown. We like the area because we are within walking distance of great food and fun entertainment! If you do choose to visit Grapevine, Texas let me know.. I can give you a tour. :)
