How I learned to have a good work ethic and how to save

Let me start with how I arrived to where I am today! It started out when I was young and my father taught me a few key characteristics. One of those was to make sure and save your money for an emergency or a major purchase. The other was having a good work ethic.

How He Did That

He started by having me polish his shoes. He had wing tips and they need to be polished weekly. I learned how to strip the old wax off, dye the shoe, apply the new wax, brush, and buff the shoe. When I started, I was very young and he had me take 1/2 my money to save. We created a ledger to show how much I earned and how much was in savings. Now I could spend my half on what I wanted to spend it on. I started out making 25 cents for the pair of shoes. Yes you read that right! It was not the amount but the lesson being learned.

You might be asking why is this important.

It is simple... work hard at whatever you are doing! See before I knew it I had a savings account setup in my own name. He increased how much he was paying me from 25 cents to 50 cents and I made more if I had to strip them down and dye them. So this is something that still today I remember. When I was married the first time I had extra money to pay for furniture, a deposit on an apartment, a car paid in cash, etc. So I learned early on how important this was! That is it for today. I look forward to sharing more tomorrow!
