Today I want to share about the right approach a person made to me in the direct sales industry. This was someone I knew through work as well. We built a relationship and we had mutual respect. Still in my 20's and not looking for any other opportunities we simply talked about what we were doing.
A genuine approach!
Then one day he told me about an event he heard about that was the launch of a new company, He said upfront it was a Direct Sales company. Nothing was hidden, no excuses were given. He simply told me that it was a new company he was looking at and would I like to go. I thought about it and shared with him my prior experience, He reassured me he was just looking and wanted me to give my input as well. If I joined great, if not that was ok as well.
Then what happened?
We both attended the event where a person made the presentation, The company at the time was Prepaid Legal. I was in my mid 20's at this point. So the services were appealing to me. The company today is called Legal Shield. I joined the company after he did. So he was telling the truth about this being his first exposure as well. I was new to the industry and really had no idea what I was doing or even how to approach a person to be a customer or an associate. But, it was a valuable experience.
Why am I even talking about this?
This shows you how important honesty is when it comes to Direct Sales. So many times people do not realize honesty is the best policy! If I did not have this positive experience I would not know what I do today about the industry.
In the future, I will share how I was involved with different companies from both sides of the industry. Plus I had the privilege to Work with a few top level leaders in the industry. The biggest thing I have learned is to be truthful. Other items that are right at the top of the list are belief in your company, belief in your self, listening to your up-line! If any of these items waiver then you will have challenges.
The recap to this post
During my last post I shared this item. So I am sharing it again as it is very important. "People do business with those they know like and trust." You now see why it is important to build a relationship first. The relationship is the foundation for any successful business. It does not matter if it is online, Direct Sales, Brick and mortar, or face to face.
Until next time...
