As my passion for murals has gotten me a growing collection of posts about local wall paintings, I thought I’d check out what murals other steemians have posted lately. Since this is a rather narrow subject, I decided to extend it a bit, and include art in general. And indeed, there are lots and LOTS of amazing visuals posted by great artists, or just people with an eye for beauty.
However, since this at the same time I want this curation post to participate in the weekly Pay It Forward Contest hosted by @pifc, I had to follow its guidelines. As such, I ignored all the wonderful artists who are at level 55 or above (sorry guys, but you’re doing so well already, keep up the great work!) as well as those posts that only had one photo with less than 200 words of text. I couldn’t believe how many of them fell into this category. But seriously, guys! It doesn’t take much to write a bit of explanation, or include a few steps of the creation process. Anyway, those two I picked turn out to be really nice examples of what @pifc is looking for, so here they are:
FIJACIÓN – AJEDRES ROSTRO by @franciscomarval
In this post the artist @franciscomarval introduces his painting in a number of photos, including himself with the finished work, as well as the creative process of making it. The image is of a young female face, beautiful with strands of hair and interesting make-up. Next to her is a chess piece of the knight… the dark knight as it appears, though it was drawn from the actual piece of a light knight.
In the photos there are numerous other paintings all around the featured one, giving us teaser tastes of this talented artist’s work. Check out his profile, you won’t be disappointed! Although this certain post is written is Spanish, almost all other pieces of his are given an explanation in English as well.
Cacica Gaitana's Mural by @skrytorio44
The other post I’m quite excited about sharing was made by @skrytorio44, who seems to be the muralist behind this wall painting that can be found in Colombia. The work depicts a local heroine, known as La Cacica Gaitana, who triggered an aboriginal revolt against the invading Spaniards in 1539.
What I particularly like about this mural is the fiercely beautiful image of this warrior woman, and of course the lettering of the graffiti saying Abya-Yala (which is also explained in the post). Beside just the impressive image of the mural, the artist gives a detailed account in his post of the historical background to this uprising, making it even more interesting to behold the image.
Visiting the profile of @skrytorio44 or Daniel Montiel you’ll find many other interesting pieces, including paintings and drawings in various styles. I certainly recommend taking a look.
