I think that looking outside your followers is the best thing to do. If you find someone who is undervalued and bring them exposure they will be grateful. Make sure to tell them you have done this and show them a link to your post. Maybe you gain a new follower, a human one! Plus as they grow and you both follow each other you will both gain. You help them grow and in return they help you. Once you have done this with enough people you start to have your own little community and life gets easier in terms of earning a little without paying for votes.
