Violence and coercion are sometimes necessary

Involuntary servitude, like taxation, is necessary

Someone asked the Dalai Lama said about how about how his situation was different from Gandhi. He said that Gandhi could use nonviolence because if you have a disagreement with the British you can petition the government for redress and settle things in court and go through a legal process, even if you face arrest, on the other hand he was facing the Chinese, who will just shoot you in the face.
