Women Between Arts - Lucie Vítková

in #performer7 years ago (edited)

Lucie Vítková is a composer, improviser and performer (accordion, harmonica, voice, and tap dance) from the Czech Republic.

During her studies in Composition at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (CZ), she has been a visiting scholar at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (NL), California Institute of the Arts in Valencia (USA), Universität der Künste in Berlin (D), and most recently at Columbia University in NYC with Prof. George E. Lewis.

Lucie‘s compositions focus on sonification (compositions based on abstract models derived from physical objects), while in her improvisation practice she explores characteristics of discrete spaces through the interaction between sound and movement.

In her recent work, she is interested in the musical legacy of Morse Code and the social-political aspects of music in relation to everyday life.

She has been nominated on 2017 Herb Alpert Awards in Arts in category of Music and she has put together two ensembles – NYC Constellation Ensemble (focused on musical behavior) and recently the OPERA Ensemble (for singing instrumentalists).

She was also commissioned by Roulette to create a piece, OPERA, as part of Roulette’s New + Adventurous series, which was performed in April 2017.

As an accordion player, Lucie collaborated with New York based TAK Ensemble, S.E.M. ensemble, Du.0, Argento Ensemble and Ghost Ensemble. She has had multiple albums released, her newest being MUSIC DOMESTIC (3/2017, Bánh Mí Verlag, NYC), which derives from her explorations of domestic space.

Lucie has performed with George E. Lewis, Roscoe Mitchell, Miya Masaoka, David Rothenberg, Christian Wolff, Charlemaine Palestine, Toshimaru Nakamura, Tetuzi Akiyama, Oliver Lake, Sara Schoenbeck and James Ilgenfritz.
