Serial Consumers

It’s not a widely discussed topic. People don’t believe in themselves enough to write about their own tedium, but gladly scarf others. It’s hard for me. I didn’t watch the Oscars; but I’ll take the nominees and winners’ lists. What a neat idea, to watch these curated films, to come to your own opinion on them. I suppose it’d be easier to start with the current year and work retroactively.

What a neat idea, to write about a given holiday each day, as a challenge to express gratitude and maintain consistency. If the ideas now were a cereal, it’d be Raisin Bran. For those with particular taste, the bowl of Raisin Bran is an excellent source of fiber and good source of vitamins and minerals. Kellogg’s breakfast rep provides 42% of the Daily Value for fiber and 18% for iron.

But it’s also high in added sugar, almost half the daily recommendation.

Even while trying to be good and do good, Raisin Bran and I, still support our guilty pleasures. The healthy breakfast buries the lame health stuff in sugar. The young adult paying down his credit card debt dumps money into crypto, clothes and on occasion, a work of art.

It started with Rollin Karg. Rather, a marble glass vase Rollin Karg made caught my attention the day I decided to check an auction site again. It was perfect- a few hours left to bid, and a measly $4 for the current bid.

The auction ended with a winning bid of $22. I did not make the winning bid. I was somewhere, probably rallying back and forth with my girlfriend over our last game of Overwatch.

I would consider myself gracious. Both in Overwatch and auctions, I accept defeat without much rancor. Whether or not I believe we had a chance, I try to let the past go and look forward.

I try, my friends, but I don’t always succeed. Sometimes I swear at the sight of the word in red letters on my screen. Sometimes an item I could purchase for cheap slips away as I pay costly attention elsewhere.

Charles Fracé helped me draw the line. Rather, this painting of a jaguar, the big cat looking back at the viewer as it lounges, stopped me. The current bid of $4 agreed with me. And the March 7th, 7:53 PM EST deadline urged me.

I would need to act, and soon.
