Two days ago I started writing on Steemit and I cannot stop. Today I want to give you a little insight into my life and my personal background. I am 24 years old and live in Hamburg, Germany.
Raised but not born here
I remember I was a little child when life changed all of a sudden. My family had to leave the country because of war and persecution. We managed to flee from Afghanistan and left all we had behind us. With nothing but ourselves we made our way through to Germany. The journey was long and dangerous and few of the people who tried to go with us did not make it.
So, here we are in Germany with nothing but our lives we saved. We were lucky and got an asylum to stay. My mother, dad and I had a single room we used to share together. But it did not matter because we were lucky about every little help we received. I remember the time as if it were yesterday. Being in a new county. A new world. I did not understand the language and this made my life hard. When school started I had some serious struggle with understanding basic conversations. Until middle school my German grammar and spelling was really bad. The teacher recommended me to a special needs school. This made it hard to make friends at school and I was a social outcast.
But guess what? I did not gave up. My parents did not gave up
My father worked hard to collect some money. He spent it all for my educations. I had speech correction lessons, received tutoring and tried to stay with Germans as much as I can. With the time I improved. I learned the language bit by bit and soon I was able to talk fluently. Here I was, suddenly I went to high school!
I became part of the society and was accepted. Today, around 19 years later, I go to university and already finished my first bachelor of science. In my free time I try to work and earn money to support my family.
Why I tell you this story?
We live in politically charged times. Many bad things are happening all around the world and it becomes worse. The discussion about refugees is a controversial topic right now in Germany. They are accused for almost everything.
But what exactly is a refugee? Someone who leaves his country? Someone who escapes war? Border are set by humans. But not we did create the world. The world belongs to us all. What we really need the most in these times is unity and peace. Though I do not have much to give I work in a voluntary capacity with refugees and try to give them a better start in their new life than I had.
Therefore dear Steemians, it is our duty to work together for a better world. To me Steemit is a way to reach many different people from all around the world and exchange opinions. Besides that it gives me some financial support which I use to help my family and people in need.
We are able to change things.
We are all the same.
We are human.
Thank you for your precious time and here a picture of myself :)

- Hello Steemit community! This is my very first blog post and I am already excited
I'm glad that you've thrived even in times of struggle and have come out to be a positive person despite what life has thrown at you! Much respect to you for never giving up!
Also, welcome to steem and I wish you the best on here! :)
P.S. - I agree, humans created walls and borders and we need to learn to crush those and come together as one, what we are, HUMANS. One love brother.
Much respect and love to you! Thank you very much for your words. I really think that keeping a positive attitude is the key to success in life. Life in general is never easy, but we learn to overcome our fears and grow bigger and stronger. Giving up is no option because you never know if tomorrow will be your day. The day that changes everything
Much love and respect returned! Thank you as well and thank you for the reply, it's good to see a community get involved with the things they put out there about themselves, gives people a good perspective. You are 100% correct though, we cannot let fear consume us or we will not progress.
I hope you keep moving forward, and making the best of your situation!
Thank you for your support :) I know I can't change the world. But I know that I can try to change it! And that's what matters. Hope you are doing well and gave a nice day :)
hello Tim,
I am very suprised about your life and your motivation to keep on with living despite these struggels. Something like this need much strength and support. Your family is certainly very happy to have a son like you. The world is rife of bad things like war and dictatorship. Besides the problem is actual. Many parents and children flee from conflict area and they need help!!! I think you have got a good attitude.
Life of a immigrant can be hard, especially war immigrant. But hardships make one's stronger. You can be proud of yourself and your gratitude. Keep moving forward!
