She was packing her suitcase in the house and I had the car running in the driveway with the A/C on. Monsoon season has cooled the desert quite a bit, but it was 93 with 45% humidity, still 20 degrees cooler than a week ago…yep, 113 in Tucson, for multiple days!

I wandered out the front door of my girlfriend’s house while I waited, almost patiently, for her to finish packing. What might occupy my harried head for a moment? I took out my phone of course, like we all do…nothing new, then I looked up and saw two men busily buttoning up their work for the week. One was power washing the west side of the roof and the other was almost done painting the eaves…then I looked up even further and caught the glorious glow of sun casting it’s light down through the clouds, and a hawk effortlessly floating above us.

When I get stuck down here in the details, fiddling with the minutiae of all that must get a slice of my decreasing attention span, I must remember to look up, to “pull back the lens” like my old boss used to say and glory in the grand scheme of things, breathe a fresh breath of life and hover with the hawks a bit…float more, flap less!
