You know, I think the more you spend time with flowers (or anything), your perspective changes and grows. If you are drawn to the color, you will see color. If your drawn to the form, you see the form. Right now, I'm drawn to lights and shadows (with form) so I think that is coming through in my photography and a few months from now, who knows! :) Peonies are wonderful for this because they are complex all by themselves without my help ;) They are full of light and shadows, too.
I really don't know how to use my camera, @bashadow - it's stuck on 'auto'. I really should take a class but I would rather hang out with a professional photographer on a photoshoot. I do have a good eye though - I know what a shot should look like. LOL This year, I've learned about light and dark and just like drawing, makes a big difference in if a picture looks flat or 'alive'. AND later in the day photography makes a whole lotta difference! That's the time! Imma learning!
Thank you for your input and comment - always very helpful.
I keep playing with mine, I can't tell you how many pictures I took on manual, before I saw that little hack mark bar in the viewfinder, saying you are in range. A lot of whiteout shots, and blackout shots, and yeah, time of day makes a difference I guess, flat light verse back light, I have to be careful with my shadow getting in the way.
That's where having a decent telephoto lens helps ;) Sometimes you do need to be close to your subject though and that is a little tricky - haven't figured that one out yet.
Usually I take a little photo of the description cards for flowers when I photograph them but I didn't with this one :( I'm not well-educated on peonies but I should try and learn more about them. I actually took this photo in early spring so I don't even know if they are still blooming but I will be going out there again soon and I'll see if I can find a definitive answer for you.
Pink flower with slight orange tone has truly turned out an eye candy. Good photography.

Poetic and more complicated than meets the eye. Pretty soon you will start to see their personalities :-0

Oh I kinda do already ;) Is not merely just a 'photo' ever.
So cool, @nature4ster - I like the way you think and see
Stunning!
Happy returns for the contest.
Thank you, @lady-idra :) Not sure if I will be accepted as I wasn't able to vote (due to 7 day limit).
Never mind... the photo is still stunning and you can enter it in an other contest if you've missed this one. :) @youhavewings
Nice flowers
You certainly know how to use your camera. I am still learning to use mine. A beautiful picture.

@youhavewings This is amazing!!! Excellent shot! I love this flower, It brings me back memories. Perfect photography!!! Thank you for sharing
Do you happen to know the genus and species of the flower? Asking for a friend. ;)
I'm pretty sure it is a peony, @enforcer48 Possibly a Berry Garcia Itoh Peony? What do you think?
And I would agree. I just wanted to know what the original flower looked like compared to this photo. I appreciate the contrast.
