CHOCOLATE COULD KILL YOUR PET

HI Steemians! In today´s post, I would also like to sound a warning note, about a sweet poison, which everyone has in their homes: The Chocolate!
It is very important; that everybody knows that chocolate could be mortal if we give it to our haired friends. Because they cannot metabolize it, like Humans do.
The reason because of chocolate is so dangerous, is due to a chemical compound called theobromine; that chocolate contains in high quantity.
The lethal dose of theobromine for a dog is 300mg/kg. For cats is over 200/mg, but cats does not like chocolate.
The theobromine usually has to be metabolized by the liver cells but, hepatocyte´s dog cannot demethylated the theobromine and becomes toxic.
The main symptoms of chocolate´s intoxication are vomiting and diarrhea at first time, after develops to cardiorespiratory symptoms and finally irreversible neurological damage and death.
With only 100 grs, symptoms could be seen.

There is no antidote for this kind of intoxication. The only thing that veterinarians can do is a stomach pumping, if the dog has eaten the chocolate two hours before. If it’s later we only can apply vital support with oxygen and fluidotherapy.

To make you an idea, 1 oz of milk chocolate has 45mg of theobromine, but 1 oz of dark chocolate has 400mg!!!
