In our busy daily lives, it can sometimes be difficult to find ways to avoid burn out. But, doing something nice for yourself once in a while may help you feel rejuvenated and re-motivated. Doing something nice with your co-workers would definitely be a bonus, as you get to distress together while bonding over beer and not talking about work at all.
So, my teammates and I, including our boss, his wife and his kid, had an overnight stay at a beach recently. I’ve been with the team for a year and a half now, and this was only the second time we went out of town.
We went to Sigayan Bay, a beach resort in Laiya, San Juan, Batangas. Funny enough, there were only 7 of us, but we bought 3 cars and went to the resort separately, since we were coming from places which were out of each other’s ways. Thus, being the only one coming from the southernmost part, I drove alone, which I didn’t mind at all, because I was looking forward to driving alone for 2 hours, to test my patience and driving skills. Haha!
Sigayan Bay is relatively a cheap resort, but a decent and clean one at that. We rented a room for PhP6,800.00 and just bought food to cook for dinner and breakfast, and of course, beverages. You may refer to their website for more details. (This is not an advertisement. Lol.)
I have been to Laiya for countless of times already, as I have a friend who lives in the area, but this was my first time to go boating there. The experience was so-so, when compared to other boating and island-hopping experiences I’ve had, but I liked the rocky cove we went to since we were the only people there at that time.
At night, we played Monopoly, which all of us haven’t played in years, so we forgot some rules, and it turned out, after 2 hours of playing, we have been playing it wrong, which gave us a good laugh. Then they played poker, but since I don’t know how to play (actually any card games at that), I was left to be the “tanggera”, or the one who pours the drink into the shot glass and passes it from drinker to drinker. Nice job, right?
The following day, we went to Cafeno, a known café in San Juan town proper. We ordered the Batangas-famous lomi and tamales.
This post is actually not about describing or giving reviews to the place we went to, but more of like being grateful that we, as a team, did something nice together. We have been busy recently, and workload has been pouring in, and doing something nice together is a sort of an internal reset button. I just wanted to document this in all of my accounts, be it in social media, or here in Steemit.
Let’s admit it, we all get burned out once in a while, and no matter how close we become, we sometimes get sick and tired of our colleagues whom we spend more time with than our own families. Going out of town trips with your colleagues will help in turning a frown upside down, and promote better camaraderie as you get to know each other more outside the confines of your office walls.
Here’s a short video I created for our overnight trip. I liked this line of the song that I used in the video: “We put the Good in the Good Life.” Good Life by G-Eazy and Kehlani
