Traveling with a Philippine passport

Hi I’m Jireh! I was born in Naga, Bicol, Philippines. I was able move to Canada on a work visa in 2011. Since I could remember I always dreamed of traveling the world and now I am living my dream!

Traveling with a Philippine passport can be quite challenging, mostly due to our country’s poor economic situation. Each country has its own set of laws, rules and regulations so it’s first and foremost important to do your research thoroughly. Information on what is required can be found on the website of the country’s embassy or consulate. Some countries require you to apply for a visa in person with numerous requirements ranging from money in the bank to proof of legal status. Others are relatively easy online application with a small fee. Applying for visas can be a costly and time consuming process that is why it is important you go over all your documents multiple times to ensure there are no errors and you have all the appropriate supporting documentation.

If you’re like me and are determined to travel, I would first recommend trying to get a job as an OFW. One thing this does for you is it enables you to make more money easier. Another thing is that if you can become a permanent resident or citizen of another country it will make many processes easier when it comes to getting a visa.

Once you are established as an OFW the next step is to save money. This can be difficult because I’m sure many of you already know that anyone working outside of the country is expected to help family back home. While helping your family is undoubtably important it is equally important to plan ahead for yourself.

So while it may be difficult for us to travel, it is certainly not impossible. Remember don’t dream your life, live your dream.
