Swimming with whale sharks is one of the popular things to do on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. They come to the same spot every morning because they are hand-fed which has caused a lot of controversy.
Many people are against the practice because some sharks get hurt from all the boats and people around and it likely messes with their migration patterns since they keep coming back for free food.
Many support it because it definitely helps the local economy through tourism and some also claim that feeding them keeps them away from actual fishing boats which could hurt them even more.
There is conflicting information out there, too.
The main thing I want you to gain from this video to do your own research before supporting this business. Try to understand and make your own decision based off the information out there. And know that there are other options for whale shark viewing in the Philippines and other locations around the world.

Sharks love free food.
Yeah. Good thing these sharks don't see people as free food. :)
Ahhh! So incredibly jealous! I wanted to do that last time I was in PI but it was the beginning of the season so there were no whale sharks sighting yet. They didn't show up until after I left! I <3 sharks!
I definitely agree on making sure we are educated on whale sharks, or any animals for that matter. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Yeah, you'll definitely have to plan another trip to Philippines. So much to do and see there.
