Our most recent excursion took us to "Yoki's Farm" in Mendez, which is home to a zoological garden, hydroponic vegetable cultivation and a museum of antique artefacts.
Founded in 1996 as a hobby, Yoki's Farm is a family project that is now run on ten hectares of land.
In Asia in particular, animals in zoos are often locked up in very narrow, inappropriate cages, so I was all the more pleased to read in advance that most of the enclosures at Yoki's Farm are clean and offer their inhabitants a relatively large amount of space.
Our daughter had been impatiently counting down the days to our visit to the farm for some time already, and I think she wasn't disappointed. :)

Unser jüngster Ausflug führte uns zu "Yoki's Farm" in Mendez, auf deren Gelände sich ein zoologischer Garten, in Form von Hydrokulturen betriebener Gemüseanbau sowie ein Museum antiker Kunstgegenstände befinden.
Bei der 1996 gegründeten, als Hobby begonnenen Yoki's Farm handelt es sich um ein auf mittlerweile zehn Hektar Land betriebenes Familienprojekt.
Gerade in Asien werden Tiere in Zoos häufig in sehr enge, nicht artgerechte Käfige gesperrt, und umso erfreuter war ich, im Vorfeld zu lesen, dass die meisten Gehege der Yoki's Farm sauber seien und ihren Bewohnern relativ viel Bewegungsfreiheit böten.
Unsere Tochter zählte bereits seit Längerem ungeduldig die Tage bis zum Besuch der Farm, und ich denke, sie wurde nicht enttäuscht. :)

Like ostriches, 'northern cassowaries' (Casuarius unappendiculatus) are very large, flightless ratites. Their necks and heads shine in beautiful blue, red, orange and yellow, but despite their beauty, they are extremely dangerous due to their strong legs and feet, whose inner toe, armed with a dagger-shaped claw, grows up to ten centimetres long. Due to various similarities with the prehistoric reptiles, cassowaries are sometimes referred to as "dinosaur birds" - I suggest you to read this interesting report on these amazing birds. |

After our tour, we ate at the restaurant belonging to the farm. The simple dishes on offer there are very tasty thanks to the meat produced on the farm. And when our daughter was the last child to leave the playground, we could look back on several pleasant, entertaining and educational hours at Yoki's Farm. |
Nach unserer Tour aßen wir noch im zur Farm gehörigen Restaurant. Die dort angebotenen, einfachen Gerichte schmecken aufgrund des aus eigener Produktion stammenden Fleisches durchaus sehr lecker. Und als unsere Tochter schließlich als letztes Kind den Spielplatz verließ, konnten wir auf mehrere angenehme, unterhaltsame und lehrreiche Stunden in Yoki's Farm zurückblicken. |

Wer geht hier wohl als absoluter Favorit im Rennen um den Preis „Die coolste Socke überhaupt“ ins Rennen? Ganz eindeutig, der Palmkakadu. Mein sofort laut geäußerter Plan, ihn in unser kleines Gehege aufzunehmen, scheiterte leider am Einspruch meiner Finanzministerin.
Die wiederum hat ein Auge auf die Ziegen geworfen. Worauf ich ihr den Ratschlag unterbreitete, ihr Augenmerk doch lieber uneingeschränkt auf mich zu richten.
Was den gefiederten Kopfschmuck deiner beiden Damen betrifft, muss ich eingestehen, dieser Form der Haute Couture nicht meine Gunst zu schenken, da mir die Gefahr, als Toilette missbraucht zu werden, zu hoch erscheint.

Momentan ist schon aus rein wirtschaftlicher Sicht der Besuch im Tierpark Bad Mergentheim oder dem Zoo Ffh wahrscheinlicher. ;-)

A wonderful post. The best parts of your posts are often pictures of your family. They look so happy, and peaceful.
Most of the animals seem to be housed appropriately (from the pictures). The Malamute, however, seemed very forlorn. Even with an air conditioned enclosure available, it just doesn't seem right to keep such a lively, free-spirited animal penned up like that. Maybe it's just the picture that gave that impression.
The birds (some of them) were amazingly gentle.
Yes ... a zoo is always a compromise between the wishes of the visitors to be able to observe animals and the requirements of its 'inhabitants'. In addition, there is of course not an unlimited amount of space available.
But at least Yoki's Farm endeavours to provide the animals with the best possible living conditions, which in my opinion it does better than many other zoos.
I understand people who generally dislike zoos, but on the other hand they can teach many previously uninterested people about the fascinating characteristics and abilities of various animal species and awaken interest and respect for life forms other than humans.
They also help with the breeding and reintroduction of endangered species.
Awesome excursion to Yoki's Farm! There are various kinds of birds and animals among the greenery. I quite envy the couples of the impressive and intelligent "Palm cockatoos" that stay together for life....
It looks fun to walk around admiring these animals. I am no doubt why your little princess was looking forward to going to Yoki's Farm. All of you look happy indeed.

Die Farm hat sich wohl über viele Jahre hinweg bis zum heutigen Zustand entwickelt:
Trotzdem wirklich erstaunlich (ich fürchte, in Deutschland würde solch ein Projekt mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit bereits in einem frühen Stadium aufgrund hoher Steuern, Bürokratie und Vorschriften scheitern, bevor es überhaupt zu wachsen beginnen könnte).
