The Campanario de Dumaguete is one of the oldest watch tower here in the Philipines most especially in Negros province. This religious structure can be found with in the city proper of Dumaguete in front of the public plaza.
The exterior structures are made of corals and form like a brick, while inside are stacked corals mixed with sand. Where I could say that the materials used to build the tower is better than building construction materials today.
here is the plaque with Dumaguete City official seal, where you can read the history of this watch tower.
That indicates when it was built and who are the people behind upon building this watch tower.
There are other watch towers also in some places here in Negros and mostly was built during the time of the Spaniards. That's why our hiligaynon dialect are mostly " Spanish words " like kutsara, tinidor, kandado, onse, dose, and many more. The massive influence of Spanish culture to the people of Negros many decades ago.

Ive been to dumaguete for 5 days last year but I wasn’t able to explore the city itself because on the day that I’m supposed to, it rained 😏. Such a great historic tower.
we stay for one night and 2 days and we visited only several places..
Atleast you get to explore such nice places! 👍🏼
Seeing this post, I suddenly missed this place. I have always loved Dumaguete. With it's friendly people and accessible go-to places. A City of Gentle People it is. We Lighted a candle beside this tower.
yeah.. there is a steel platform at the back if you want to lit a candle..
