New Year... New You?
It’s that time of the year when many people are making their New Year’s resolutions. A few weeks from now almost all of those resolutions will be forgotten.
Why does this happen?
I think this happens because we already have too much on our plates. We have so much going on that we just don’t have room for more. We are distracted by all those things we think we have to do.
What is the solution?
When you have too much of anything, you have to clean house. Get rid of all the unnecessary things in your environment. You have to clear space and make room for the new. What do you need to leave behind?
After you have created space, you can begin to add new things, new behaviors, and new people.
Here’s an article by Nika Kabiri, a Social Scientist, that I found very thought provoking. She outlines her plans for the New Year.
Where I differ with Miss Kabiri, is mostly on terminology. She talks about doing ordinary things. I think there is too much ordinary in the world. The ordinary is now the very thing that is causing a lot of the world’s problems. Ordinary is the status quo. Common sense needs to be replaced with uncommon sense.
