RE: The monetary boundaries of friendship?

in #philosophy7 years ago

By now you know I'm weird, right? Money obsession is a disease. Here's my take on your problem.

  • If you accept money for something you would do for free, you are a prostitute.
  • If you will do anything for anybody for free you are a whore.
  • If somebody asks you do to do something for them and wish to pay you for it, they are propositioning you.

The only righteous way to accept money for something is if it is

  • given freely without strings attached
  • is paid to you for a service that may ultimately result in a financial profit to the person propositioning you.
  • is paid to you for a good that you had to pay money for.

Simple and straightforward rules to live by. You probably won't get ahead this way but then, ultimately, there is no ahead to get to: only the end.

I think there is no righteous way either then :)
Money is a simple tool yet many treat it as some kind of indicator of success. I am much less impressed by how many hammers someone has than what they can build by using them.

Or destroy.
