“Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily” – William of Ockham (1285 - 1349?)
You have surely heard of Ockham’s razor. The idea is that when we are judging among competing philosophical or scientific theories, all other things being equal, we should prefer the simplest theory. I like to rephrase it as “Keep it simple, stupid.” The idea has great appeal.
