It's quite a relief to find that nothing will make you happy and nothing can prevent you from being happy. Choosing to be happy no matter what your circumstances is a truly radical act.

Consumerism constantly bombards us with the idea that we can't really be happy unless with have whatever they are trying to sell, that the fact that the world is destroying itself should make us unhappy but that filling your life with junk will negate that. It's total BS.

I traveled extensively before television was common. Where people had nothing, including access to TV images of people with lots of stuff that made them feel inferior, poor people were the happiest I've ever met. Now that TV is pretty much everywhere, even poor people are unhappy. Lol.

Lately, the most joyous people I encounter are homeless hitch hikers. What a world.
